Going against the grain food-wise

I guess I shouldn’t have said “mostly” and should have said “include plenty of”…you’re right about the carbs…however, from a health perspective, those carbs shouldn’t be comming from processed white sugar and flour.

But…while the carbs give you the quick jolt, the protein is what keeps you from being hungry again in an hour.

But then you’re just extra hungry for lunch, which is supposed to be the biggest meal of the day. I’ll have a boiled egg or two at breakfast with my muffin, but you can take my overprocessed sugar yummies from my cold dead hands.

I hate licorice with a passion. Also most fish. I can’t even stand to be in the kitchen when fish is being cooked. The only way I can eat fish other than canned tuna, sushi or sashimi is when it is very very fresh and I can add a whole bunch of lemon. I can eat frozen breaded fish sticks if I have to, but only drowned in ketchup. The ironic thing about this is that my doctor advised me to eat more fish, preferably salmon, as a way of getting my cholesterol down. I hate salmon worst of all! Oh, well, there’s always (gag) fish oil capsules.

(edit) I noticed the Google ads at the bottom are for military academies for “defiant” children. Perhaps a suggestion to ward off a new generation of picky eaters?

It’s like shredded vegetables in aspic, but with the great taste of Kool-Aid.

I was onced served a Salmon Jello salad. Recipe: Take a perfectly good salmon steak, dice it, throw some shredded carrots on it, season it with dill weed, mix it with lime (lime!) Jell-o, set and serve.

Or simply punch your guests in the stomach. Whichever seems more festive.

ETA: Oh look! A second page! :o

I love savory (not sweet) oatmeal (and it should be pretty dry.) My favorite way to eat it is to stir in a triangle of Lite Laughing Cow Cheese and BACON SALT. I’ve even been known to add a few jalapenos! I will eat BACON SALT and jalapenos with every meal.

I also usually eat just one meal a day (supper.)

I like vodka in diet root beer and almost any other kind of diet soda. I also like vodka with prune juice.

I’ll put wasabi paste on any sandwich.

I love to eat fresh green beans raw.

BACON SALT in a Bloody Mary is great! I also like to add Liquid Smoke, olive juice and jalapeno juice…sometimes I’ll add a few dashes of curry powder.

Raw oysters on the half-shell are tremendous and I could eat my weight in steamed mussels.

I never eat butter.

I love Catalina dressing on green beans…and on Turkey Burgers.

I love anchovies…especially on pizza or stuffed in olives!

Banana popsicles are the best.

I ate five snocones (the shaved ice kind) in one day…and I’d do it again!

I love pickleloaf and pimento loaf and braunschwager (sp?)

Boy, I’m weird!

I also don’t like sushi. Now, I love Japanese food, including tofu and miso soup – but basically, I don’t like fish very much, and sushi is even more fishy than cooked fish (to me).

Along the same lines, I don’t like shrimp. At a certain point I realized that what I liked about shrimp was the breaded & fried part – not the shrimp part…

I cannot stand blue/bleu cheese. I just tastes like mold to me. I annoy my friends when I insist that when cheese gets moldy is when you throw it away.

I was spoiled by my grandmothers baking cookies from scratch, so I dislike pretty much all store-bought cookies. They all just taste lard-y and fake to me. And don’t even get me started on those big lard, sugar, & frosting sugar cookies that were popular awhile back. Blech.

I also like Brussels Sprouts.

I don’t like beer and I’m in one of the micro-brewery capitals of the world.

I like American-Mexican food. Yes, I have tried and love authentic Mexican food, but I still have a soft spot for fakey-American-Mexican food, too.

I very seldom drink soda (which is apparently almost un-American). I started drinking water when I was a starving college student – and now I think it’s been years since I had soda in my fridge. I realized a while ago that I drink liquor more often than I drink soda…

I hate cheesecake, all peppers, raw onions, raw mushrooms, zucchini, Jello, pickles, Kool-Aid, pancake syrup, tuna fish . . . I was a difficult kid to feed!

I hate alcohol, especially wine. People are aghast when I say I don’t drink b/c I don’t like the taste. I’ve started to just say that I’m allergic to alcohol so wine Nazis will leave me alone.

That’s hilarious. I almost pegged you as Ohioan from your post, because I could have written it myself (less eloquently, of course)! I’m from SE Ohio and still eat kiddie comfort foods like boxed Mac and Cheese and Spaghetti-Os now and then.

I don’t know what it is, but there’s definitely an Ohio connection I have with others who grew up there. Maybe the Ohio childhood experience is uniquely Leave-it-to-Beaver-ish? There’s something about the food we ate, the music we heard, the TV we watched, the Cedar Point and Myrtle Beach vacations…

Anyway, I go against the grain on some things. I’m not impressed by sushi or “exotic” pizza toppings. I think I’ve gotten more mainstream in my food choices as I’ve gotten older, though.

I know that others have already responded, but lemme tell ya, Jell-O Salad can get a whole lot uglier.

I’m forced to assume that you are deranged, despite the lack of multiple exclamation points in your post. Trans fats are not desireable in anything. The only fats I cook with or eat are olive oil, butter, or lard. Mmmm, lard. Those damned Crisco pie crusts make me want to slap someone sensible.

There’s a reason they hydrogenate it, it’s so bugs won’t eat it and it won’t go rancid. That’s why Twinkies have a shelf life like plutonium. Well, I agree with the bugs, and I won’t eat it either.

Edited to add I was just kidding about the derangement bit, non disputandum and all that, but my god, trans fats? Is margarine superior to butter?

[…tears welling up…] That’s the most beautiful thing I’ve heard anyone say in years.

Oh, I’m the same way, for the most part; Butter, Olive Oil, and Bacon Grease are what I mostly use.

However, what I was remarking on is the fact that while companies may have been forced to switch to non-trans fats, which on it’s face is a good thing, but they’ve turned around and started using something that has a nasty wang to it. Eat a Tostito and you’ll see what I mean.

My greater lament is McDonald’s dropping the beef tallow from their fries. If a few weenies are scared of beef tallow, they should stay the hell out of McDonald’s, not spoil it for the rest of us by being litigious pussies.

The thing I hate most when I sit down at the table to eat is sitting with a bunch of picky eaters. That being said, I’m not much of a fan of catsup or anise, but it doesn’t stop me from cleaning my plate.

They dropped the tallow decades ago. Hydrogenated Veg oil was cheaper.
They use to spray the fries with natuarl beef flavor, but no they don’t do that as the Vegan’s complained. Yes, the same dudes that wouldn set foot in a McDonalds unless they had a firebomb in one hand. :stuck_out_tongue:

I strongly, strongly dislike fish. I’ve never been served fish that I really enjoyed, except when I used to go fishing with my dad and we’d catch rainbow trout and cook it on the fire in tinfoil, with a little salt and lemon juice.

So after years of refusing to eat fish (I don’t like the taste, the smell, the texture, it’s all awful), I was moved to try sushi. I don’t know why. I think I was just curious. Everybody else was eating it and raving about it, and I thought I could try to move beyond my limited dishes.

So I tried some.

And I loved it. I have never met a piece of sushi I don’t love. I don’t understand why. It combines a whole bunch of things I don’t enjoy, not just fish. And yet, when they’re all rolled together with just the lightest brushing of wasabi…mmm.

But I guess I just have a thing for raw food. The best steak I ever had in my life was in a little restaurant in Florence. I ordered it “blue” and the damned thing was still mooing when it came to the table. Everybody was totally grossed out, because it looked like this thick piece of meat was barely brushed over the gentlest flame. I loved it.

I don’t like pepperoni or sausage on pizza…but thinly sliced pepperoni on a cracker is a wonderful thing!
I’m also not a fan of champagne, but like most decent red or white wines.
I don’t eat wasabi on my sushi, don’t even like the pickled ginger…just a little lemon or eel sauce.
Ketchup…there should be a special ring in hell for the person who mucked up perfectly good tomato sauce with sugar and a bunch of other crap!
I like sardines (packed in water or mustard sauce).
Vienna sausages on saltines are a camping staple.
The Campbell’s tomato soup / grilled cheese sandwich combo is still comfort food to me too!
The only time that Krispy Kremes (classic glazed only) should be eaten is in the car while driving away from the drive-up when the “hot” light is still on!
And, last but not least, even though I live in the south, I drink my iced tea unsweetened (I’ve been told that I will go to hell for this blasphemy).
