Woman dies after being struck by golf ball

A woman in her 60s has died after being struck in the head by a golf ball.

According to police on Thursday, the woman was fatally hit by a golf ball at a golf course in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, at around 9:10 a.m. She was transported to a nearby hospital by which time she was already in full cardiac arrest.

She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

It is unclear whether the incident was the result of any safety rule violation. Police said they investigating the case.

With golf gaining popularity in recent years, the number of such incidents has been on the rise. According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, 11,468 cases of golf injury were reported in 2022, compared with 6,475 in 2017.

When I was a kid, a friend of my mom was driving her convertible through Schenley Park and was hit in the head by a golf ball, which led to her wrecking her car. She spent time in the hospital.

I tried searching for a newspaper article about this, but came away with numerous articles about golf balls shattering windshields, no convertibles mentioned
