Though now that Xtisme has asked for a justification, and upon some further thought, I think I’ll change that equals to a tentative greater-than. Xtisme was condescending several times, while Gonzo only lashed out once (admittedly, this is drawn just from a quick read of that thread’s third page - I haven’t performed a detailed survey). Gonzo got the warning, but Xtisme’s still a dick.

Sorry, xt, but Pitting gonzomax just doesn’t do any good. He doesn’t read his own stuff; what makes you think he is going to read yours? Or is capable of it?
gonzomax is an exception to the general rule that Dopers are smarter than average. Did you notice that he was putting out cites from 2005 in the course of arguing that an attack on Iran was imminent?
His postings remind me of what Sam Johnson said about women preaching being like a dog walking on its hind legs-
gonzomax sort of grasps what the SDMB is supposed to be like - you have to provide cites, and sometimes you can be snarky, but he doesn’t quite get that the cites have to actually demonstrate what you say, and the snarkiness has to have some kind of substance behind it.
I think gonzo is rather old, and his intellect is deteriorating from what was never a very dizzying height.

Thread was a failure when you started a pit thread with someone’s name in the title, with that person’s quote in the OP, with your response to the quote, and then insisted that it was “for him” and not merely “about him.”

No, I think we’d be just as confused if you were smacking a bunch of daisies at a whiffleball and insisting you were playing golf. Sort of a club, sort of a ball, definitely involves holes, but damn it, it’s JUST NOT GOLF.
When dealing with gonzomax, it’s hard not to either be a dick or be condescending. I’ve dealt with gonzo many times. I can’t say this about anyone else who posts here, but with gonzo I am 100% certain that I am both much smarter and much more informed than he is. I also have a much better grasp on basic English. When you are dealing with someone who has the obvious intellectual limitations of gonzo, but who still thinks that he knows something about the topic at hand and is, in fact, right about that topic, one can slide into being a dick pretty easily.

I hate it when any thread results in me agreeing with xtisme 
but here we have two. Gonzo was notably stupid, inanely ignorant of how industry works, and cruising for a banning in the other thread. xt suggested that he, for his own good, come over here to continue his personal insults and mindless blathering, since the Pit was created for personal insults and mindless blathering. Sorta like luring drunken Uncle Bob out of the living room so he doesn’t ruin Christmas for everyone.
Maybe the negative reaction in this thread came about because nobody expects xtisme to do something nice for somebody he dislikes.

I’m glad at least one person understood what I was getting at.
I’ve sent him emails. No replies. I started a pit thread where I TRIED to tell him why he’s so annoying and also that he was skating close to being banned. I thought he was skating close to the thin ice again so I though this would be a good place for him to perhaps blow off some steam…without risking his full membership.
Obviously this was not one of my more brilliant ideas by the general reaction here. Honestly I didn’t think it would draw more than a post or two from anyone outside since I DIDN’T pit him. Doesn’t seem to have worked out that way…
It WAS for him. Its NOT about him. As I’ve said, if I wanted to pit the man I WOULD pit him. In fact I HAVE pitted him in the past…and told him exactly what I thought of him. This wasn’t supposed to be about that. Obviously you remain unconvinced. C’est la vie…
Much better here than in GD. It looked to me as if he was getting frustrated (and as others have pointed out I wasn’t helping the situation by pointing out his lack of understanding of even the basics)…and I thought if he called me childish one more time he risked suspension or maybe banning. Gods know how the strikes system works here. I just thought that this would be a good place for him to take his frustration…if he so chose.
You get too much stuff off your chest in GD and its a good way to get your membership revoked.
Well, as I’ve said, it wasn’t really supposed to be a pitting of gonzomax. IIRC, the first pitting I did about him he never showed up too either, which is a shame.
At any rate, its obvious that gonzo isn’t going to show up here either, so the point of this thread is moot now. You guys can carry on…I will check in just to take my beating like a man but probably won’t comment anymore unless gonzo wanders in. Have fun…

I think mazinger_z was on the right track, and you probably should follow his last suggestion. This thread seems like silly grandstanding no matter how much you think or insist it was some magnanimous gesture.
This thread is like a piece of furnature from Ikea, put together wrong because nobody wants to read the directions and out of style fast because of poor design.
