Good free web games

I despair.

During the moments when the brain sleeps but the body keeps moving, most people watch TV. I play computer games. When I am away from my home computer, I often play cute little games you can find online. But lately, these have been calling softer and softer.

You see, I can’t find anything to play.

I enjoy original games, esp strategy based ones. Original games are hard to find for free online. Good examples of these are Star Conquest, World Conquest, and Something Fishy, from Clevermedia, or insaniquarium from popcap.

Sadly, I have triumphed too often over these games for them to appeal to me.

I have no wish to play any of the 10000+ clones of mahjong or gemstone. Flashteroids does nothing for me. I tire of trying to herd thingies into the center of the board. Nor do I desire the time commitment of the register-to-play games, such as those at mpogd. Somewhere out there, there must still be good, original games. Somewhere there must be an AntWar with more meat, or a SnowCraft with better play.

I implore you, readers of the SDMB, to sate my thirst for fun games. You have good taste. I trust you.

Mostly.

uhhhh…I assume you have tried Shockwave.com ?

It’s not quite in the genre you’re describing, but I’ve been having a lot of fun playing Monopoly over at Playsite. They also have some old arcade favorites available for free play (Missle Command, etc.). I know Monopoly sounds boring, but believe me, the web version goes FAST – full four person game rarely lasts 20 minutes.

If you’re into word games, I’ve spent a fair bit of time playing TextTwist, available via Yahoo Games.

Interested to see what everyone else comes up with, as well. I’m a free game 'ho.

I’m wih Deep Fried on this. The first thing I thought of when I saw the thread title was shockwave.com. “Fat Boy Raids the Cookie Factory” is my favorite. Also, like MsWhatsit, I have spent a good deal of time playing TextTwist, although I’ve been off of it for a month and a half.

I enjoy playing a trivia type game called:

Know it all

which can be played at:

It’s the most challenging one that I have come across, and I’ve yet to see a repeated question.

Download pocket Tanks deluxe with all the expansion packs. You won’t be sorry.

Go to www.makaimedia.com

…really fun games!

I did and I’m getting no work done, silly, yet strangely addictive.

http://www.candystand.com/ usually keeps me busy

now play speartoss…more addictive than porn

Texas hold em at …

On the free tables of course.

www.fetchfido.co.uk/games/curve_ball/curve_ball.htm
Both of these games were linked here before; they’re good, addictive games.

Here’s some cute ones: http://www.ferryhalim.com/orisinal/

www.slingo.com

Try Bumper. Deceptively easy and addicting.

www.gamehouse.com

Try WhatWord.

www.arcadepod.com

Lots and lots of free games.

Try Freearcade.com. The graphics are cheesy, but some of the games have a great setup, and are a challenge. Try “The Wiz”. It is tough to solve! When you go to the site, click on graphic adventures, and scroll to the bottom of the page to find it.

Space Empires III is a perfectly serviceable free stand-in for Civilization. Google it.

Pffft…

All those games all pale in comparison to the game I created… BEHOLD THE LANDER!

(I did in fact actually make this game, no kidding)

http://www.xgenstudios.com/castle/index.htm

http://www.xgenstudios.com/fishy/index.htm

These two have occupied me the last few days. The first is really fun until you get to the point where you just can’t possibly lose anymore. The latter is just plain fun. High scores are defunct but the best score my friend got was 9822 and it remains top in my book.
