Actually, TaleraRis, there’s at least one of us who would like it very much and is just a little jealous. I have been in love with the library since I got my first card at age 4 and find your job enviable. I have a “regular” full time job that most people would consider a mildly important and moderately successful career (just a means to pay the bills in my mind), but secretly I wish I could get a part time job in the evenings shelving. (Yes, a little extra income would be helpful.) No computer, no dealing with the public, just hours with the books. Even if you aren’t reading a book, just handling them and being around them is pleasurable. (And the Dewey decimal system of book classification has a soothing, comforting logic and order all its own.) We have a very cool main library here and I see the shelvers there on my frequent visits. They would probably find it hilarious and goofy that someone with a “career” would quietly envy them. And now that I’ve made myself sound like a really wierd person (IRL you would find me mostly normal), I’ll slink quietly back to day job…
My good news for the weekend is that Brian got today off, meaning that he is currently in his car on his way to see me. I didn’t even think this would be an option, as I was figuring he’d have to work, but I’ll take it!

My good news is that I read this thread while having a bad day and felt much better.
This thread also helped me remember one reason I started coming to this board, which was friendly interaction among members. Having just read the thread in the Pit started by Newton’s Apple, I had momentarily wondered why bother.
Relatively new (obviously, thanks to the new listing of post #s) and trying not to tread on any toes,

Not especially. Been very mundane and a few less-than-good things.
The good news:
I’ll hopefully be upgrading my computer tomorrow to a whizz-bang cool thing.
I’ve met a wonderful woman on the internet. However, she is in another country (story of my life) and it’ll be ages before we can meet, so it’s all just hopes and maybes.
The movie I’ll be working on will be endless fun
And the not so good news:
The abovementioned movie is volunteer only, not paid.
Because of the Xmas New Year break, I haven’t had any incoming money in five weeks.
I just got a phone call to say my Uncle Jim just died (completely unexpectedly, but peacefully).
Sorry to mar a Good News thread with sad news, but I just had to tell someone.
I don’t find that weird at all, cygnus If finances were sound enough for me to just be in the library with the books, handling them and putting them neatly away, all day I would. But finances are the reason it’s just a part time second job and not my real one. I think the library would be lucky to have someone like you, though I hope someday you can realize that desire
When are you going to realize being normal isn’t necessarily a good thing?
This is not no much “good” as amusing…I’m noticing that even though these are women’s jeans, they have the “condom pocket” in the front, lol. Right on, Buddy Lee! (I’m probably giving away that I don’t usually buy name brand jeans, right?)
On the cold reality front, I spent most of the 4th quarter of '99 trying to guess when we’d have to pull the plug on the company. In the last six weeks we’ve got two very good wildcat wells down and the client has revved up a program that appeared in terminal decline. We’ve also picked up two new clients, one of whom has got a very interesting project to do. So, while we’ll still probably miss Tuesday’s payment on the office lease, I’ve got all the work I can handle for the foreseeable future.
On the human front it appears, after a few years in drydock, that an SO situation may be gelling. Whoopee!
There was a box of beautiful long stem red roses on my doorstep when I got home from work yesterday, along with the sweetest note, from the sweetest man I’ve ever met.
Always be ready to speak your mind and a base man will avoid you.

Well, I went shopping at the thrift store and got a black satin designer blouse, a black velvet dress, and a black silk shirt, in like-brand-new condition, all three pieces for under $15! Woo-hoo! I love a bargain. If I have to go to a funeral, I’m all set!
