Markie is short for Marjorie, which I just learned by looking her up.
Night Court was an OK show, then suddenly blossomed when she took over the public defender role. Somehow she was perfect for it. She seemed more human and less an over-the-top caricature like the others and gave the show a center it badly needed.
I watch the Game Show channel most afternoons, and Markie is (was) a frequent guest on The $100,000 Pyramid back in the '80s. I had a huge crush on her when she was on Night Court, which is still one of my favorite sitcoms. I’m surprised to find she was four years older than I am.

I also see her pop up on Super Password, just recently with Richard Moll in an episode from the 80’s.
She also appeared in The Incredible Hulk with Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno, in addition to playing Sophia Bush’s alcoholic mother in Chicago P.D.
What a shame! I really enjoyed her in “Night Court” and “Fall Guy”.
I had a huge crush on her from Fall Guy. I was 14. That’s what happens.
