Good & Plenty and other licorice

My wife is a fan of the Wiley Wallaby black licorice. I like black licorice, but it’s not high on my “really like” meter so not worth the calories for me to ingest. As I get older, I get pickier about what I ingest. When I was 30 I’d happily eat day old donuts. Now, nope.

While I despise black licorice in any shape or form. I do like the red Twizzler variant (yeah, I know it really isn’t licorice). But putting that in a tightly sealed zip lock keeps it from drying out. If ya don’t, you could use it for a tow rope.

I love salmiak (ammonium chloride) salty licorice, and salmiak Rondos have the perfect mix of salty, sweet, and licorice for me.

I used to love Diamond Hards. They were hard buttons; good flavor & not salty. You couldn’t bite them at all at first, but after sucking on them for about 5 mins the were barely soft enough to mush them a bit with your molars. It was like the licorice version of hard candy except they didn’t shatter if you bit down on them the way a peppermint starlight mint does. One would last 20-30 mins. Sadly the company that made them went out of business & I’ve never been able to find something like them since.

I love black licorice. But strangely, I can’t stand red licorice. I can’t even stand the smell of it. Not sure why.

There is no such thing as “red licorice”. There is Licorice. And then there … something else. Twizzlers, I suppose. It ain’t licorice. That’s a dirty lie!

I went through a few months of craving Good & Plenty. I was eating some almost every day. I’d buy several boxes and empty into a ziploc bag. That way I could eat only a small handful per serving.

I still like G & P occasionally. But not like before.

I like plain licorice too, but G & P’s sugar coating makes it better.

Good & Fruity does still exist. I just don’t understand why, because licorice is black licorice. No other flavor or color, IMO.
