Ah, we love them so much, and their lives are so short…
I’ve got two oldsters in my pack now. I’m dreading the day when they have to leave us.
To QtM and Elfbabe, warm thoughts and compassionate understanding.

So sorry for your loss. You have my condolences and those of Jackie, my Australian cattle dog who has a thing for Goldens.
To pay such a tribute to a so recently lost pet speaks volumes toward her beloved status in her family. Having very recently lost two cats within days of each other, I am still too raw emotionally to write of them, let alone as eloquently as Qadgop the Mercotan has of Kim. The entire Mercotan clan has my deepest condoences and empathy.
Thanks, all.
The house is really different without the dog. While it smells better, there’s a different feel to the place. I still check where the dog is when I walk thru the house to make sure she’s in and be sure not to step on her, still think about the tasty scrap she’ll enjoy when I clean the plates, and last night upon arriving home immediately glanced to see if she was resting outside by the front door.

A life full of sailboats, seagull chasing, table scraps, starring in Star Wars parody dad-songs, and family members heroic enough to kill cardboard boxes in your defense. Who could have had a better life?
Requiescat in pace, mercopets.
Dogs are stupid man. I can just see her.
I’d type more but for some reason the monitor is all blurry.
Sorry for your loss.
Contra, Shiner and Rex.
I’m sorry for your loss. I hope that your next dog will bring the same level of enjoyment to your family that Kim did.
Going to hug my dog now. I’m so sorry, Qadgop.

Thanks again all. It sure is different around the house. At least when she crossed that line which said it was time to put her down, it was quick, there was no question of what the right thing to do.
She went from functional, able to get to her food and out to the yard at need on her own, to not being able to do that anymore literally overnight.
Part of me thought “stroke”, wanted to get a CT scan, rehab, and all that. But she wouldn’t want that. And our health insurance refused to cover those services for some reason.
