Gordie has a few quirks. He likes to pee on his front paws. He likes to “appreciate” his stuffed pink pony:dubious:. Gordie is also unsure how many legs he has. He sometimes walks on four, and some times walks on 3. Anybody else have a pet with odd behavior?
First! Woot!
Missed the edit window 'cos someone sent me a text that I had to answer…
My cats don’t have too many strange habits, Ophie does sometimes wonder which legs are hers and why she’s got more than we have. Shadow is constantly perplexed about what happens to the contents of his food bowl and why it doesn’t mysteriously fill itself up as soon as he scoffs everything in it. Usually he goes off for a very long sleep and that seems to solve the problem.
It’s a public holiday here today so no work for me, I have been out and harvested the last of the spuds from the tubs in the garden, and after that I decided to mop the floors. I might do a half-hour workout later and I have to cook tonight. Other than that I have very little else planned for my day. I’ll be on holiday this time next week though, I have to sort out what I’m packing, get the cats to the cattery and get myself to the airport. Then it will be full steam ahead for LA, San Jose, Yosemite and San Francisco. Yay!
My cat seems to believe I need a bathroom supervisor, whether when using what my mother refers to as the “euphemism” or taking a bath. She also has a tendency to hide under the covers when such distressing events as vacuuming take place.
I have 2 Boxers, and there ain’t enough bits in the world to document the weirdness of that pair.

[li]Loki has the endearing habit of marking. He gets a little quick on the draw, and marks on Freya’s spots, many times before she’s done. The result is Freay herself gets marked.[/li]
[li]Freya is the queen, and perches in one particular chair after rearranging the cushions to suit her.[/li]
[li]Both of them have to come help whenever you go sit in the bathroom.[/li]
[li]Loki gets jealous whenever I give any attention to a cat, but doesn’t care if I’m rubbing Freya’s ears instead of his.[/li]
[li]Loki will bark his fool head off if a stranger comes to the door while we are home, but will hide from the neghbor that occasionally lets them out to answer nature’s call when we are away from the house.[/li][/ul]
ETA: I’m certain that Freya has A Sense of Entitlement[sup]TM[/sup], but Loki is certifiably insane.
Rain, go away. I’ll be mowing hay tonight.
blurf - too blurfy to go to irk, so I figured I’d come here and post.
Smokey is a silly, weird, nuzzly little cat. I say little, but at last weigh in, she was over thirteen pounds. She’s also thirteen years old (I wonder if there’s a correlation?) but behaves like a much younger kitteh.
I’d always thought the tail chasing thing was strictly a canine thing, and that my cat was just odd. Several owned-by-cat friends have confirmed this action is not restricted to goggies.
Smokey likes chunky tomato sauce, bacon, creamed spinach, vanilla ice cream, and cheddar cheese, but not swiss cheese.
She’ll go nuts over a reflection or shadow on the floor but couldn’t care less about a laser dot.
She also has a whole bunch of typical cat traits. Like right now she’s scolding me for paying attention to something other than her.
eta - Bobbio - thanks for the cute emails
My one cat lurves me. When she doesn’t visit at 2AM to lie on my chest& purr, she’ll sleep on the pillow over my head & put her paw on my cheek. Its actually very soft & comforting. She likes to share what i have for dinner & if its appropriate I’ll give her some. Last night she liked the pot roast, but I know that chicken is her favorite. Often, she’ll meow to me in ways that show she really wants to talk and make herself known.
And, if that fails, she’ll leap from the floor (twisting in mid-air) and bounce off my shoulder with her feet. Generally, the means she likes what I’m having for dinner and would like some more.
Sorry if I’m moving slow today. I have been trying to be a better father (and failing miserably) and am quite swollen & sore today. I tried to take my kids fishing. My oldest bailed on me (because he’s pissed off with me). I had fun with my youngest yesterday, caught one fish,
and ended up with a shiner, two sprained fingers & a sprained toe.
“Yeah, but you shoulda seen da fish…” :dubious:
Ok, maybe I learned the hard way not to trip over tie-lines & faceplant into the dock. FTR, it hurts just as much as it sounds. I gave the fish to my brother (it was a foot-long fluke). I sure hope it was tasty…
I got yelled at good for getting my youngest home so late, but I really think he had a good time.
One of my dachshunds has a beanie baby-type stuffed toy dog that looks like her. She treats it like her own pup, carrying it around the house, tucking it in and hiding it in safe places, and generally not having much of a sense of humor about that particular toy.
All the other toys get played with, tossed around and chewed up, but not that one. She did chew its face off, but still treats that particular toy much differently from all the others. If you ask her “Where’s your baby” she will get agitated and often will bring it around. But don’t try to take it. That’s not funny to her.
One of my rabbits thinks he’s a lap cat. He’ll sit in my lap and happily soak up as much petting as I’ll give him, and even move his nose or my hand to get scritches exactly where he wants. If I stop petting, he’ll either stuff his nose under my hand to remind me of what I’m supposed to be doing, or headbutt my hand to get me to pay attention.
Occasionally when my husband laughs at him over this, hubby swears he gets a “don’t judge me” look back.
And it seems like no matter how long I pet him for, to the point where I assume he must be getting hungry or may need to use the litter box soon, he sulks when I put him back in the playpen, flicking his hind feet at me in annoyance.
Our other rabbit will not sit on my lap at all, unless I have a carrot for him to eat. The minute it’s gone, he’ll try to bolt.
I don’t know if a horse is considered a pet cuz he doesn’t live in my house. But he has more than “a few” quirks. His stall in a small barn that has only 4 stalls. If anything is out of place in the barn, he won’t go in. There is bucket that is against the far wall of the barn. It is always on the right side of the wall. One day it was on the left side of the wall. He would not go in the barn until the bucket was moved to its proper spot.
One of the many reasons I loff him.
Our Maine Coon is a rescue cat. She’s got all kinds of bizarre behaviors that constantly make me think"Woah, what happened in her previous life that would elicit a reaction like that?"
Mornin’ and pseudo-blurf.
Cat #1 (rescue kitty, cancer survivor) seems to think that drinking face-first is bad manners, and insists on dipping her paw into the water/licking it. Furthermore, she will walk across the bed in the middle of the night, over two sleeping humans. Over and over. Until one of the said humans will pet her.
Cat #2 is firmly established in the bathroom supervisor role.
Well, OYKW has a few quirks but I don’t know if he qualifies as a pet.
In other news, tis cloudy and muggy out with rain on the way from the looks of the weather map. Then again today’s high is supposed to be only 84 Amurrkin. The weather PTB still say a deluge awaits us tomorrow and Wednesday. We shall see.
The brother of two good friends died Saturday. Not an unexpected death as he had been in hospice for a month but still sad. The visitation is tonight and the funeral tomorrow. I feel like I should go to one or the other but the funeral home the family is usin’ is in Cordele, Jawja which is thirty miles away and I really don’t want to drive up there especially if it’s rainy. This makes me a kinda sorta bad person does it not. Oh, I’ll more than likely go to the visitation this evenin’ but still, I don’t wanna drive up there and back.
Now, back to the fun that is irk.
Sorry, Swampy.
Mrs. Plantv.3.0’s dog eats tomatoes.
That’s all I got on the subject.
Gizmo walks on all four legs unless he’s going down the stairs then he lifts up one of his back legs and hops down on three. :dubious:
Blurfy here. I just managed to force myself into the shower a few minutes ago. In about 1 1/2 hours Mickey and I are heading to the vet. Tomorrow I’ll take the boys. I can’t handle all three at the same time and it’s gotten to the point where taking two grandparents and three dogs would be harder rather than helpful. So,** swampy** I guess you’re not the only bad person here. I am, too, for saying that probably. Maybe we can go sit in a corner together.
Just as I’m typing I think a visual migraine is coming on. Woo hoo! At least it’s now and not later when I’m driving around with a dog in the car.
No pets currently, but friends let me come over and spend time with their dogs. Maddie is a doberman/coon hound mix, and she’s about three times larger than she thinks she is. She is terrified of thunder, and the only way to comfort her is to build a pillow fort around her. Lovie is a corgi mix, and while she has no interest in playing with doggie toys, gets extremely offended if Maddie does, and will take them away from her.
This Saturday, I get my own place, and I hope to have pets - probably kitties - before the end of the year.
Blech. I feel for you. My visual migraines only hurt about half the time, but lying there because a chunk of my vision is completely blurred out was not fun at all. Mostly it was the time to think of all the ways my brain was likely to explode.
Yello. Anybody miss me? HUGS all Around
I have given up trying to figure out Leo. He’s socially awkward, maladjusted in personality & weird about being touched. Yet he’ll roll & expose his belly, & let strangers pet him sometimes. He’ll sit & stare at the wall for hours ( we say he’s watching Cat Movies) He’s twitchy, but will sleep through anything, Eschews any Hooman meat tidbits, but will shamelessly beg for pimento cheese. Still, cats is weird, and Whaddya gonna do??
Hope you all are well! We are moving this week/weekend, so very busy. I just wanted to pop in, tell ya’ll hi & let you folks know I missed ya!
So, what’d I miss?
I got nothing but blurf.
Pearl! Howdy!
StickyBuns there’s plenty of room in the handbasket.
Yay for gettin’ your own place kanga!
It’s gettin’ near N.O.L. time. I can tell cause tummy is rumbly.
