This week we said farewell to Ruminations, the social networking site for observational humor one-liners, hosted by comedian Aaron Karo. Alas the site and all its content was pulled on November 1. I don’t know when it was first established, although I can say that during my participation over the last year I noticed a downhill slide from truly insightful and funny comments to just whatever shit came into someone’s head (“I think I masturbate too much”), rants about personal events (“Hey you, asshole who tailgated me this morning…”), and sincere but definitely unfunny comments (“Be kind to that person in a bad mood today”). I miss being able to throw in my own comments, but I don’t miss having to sift through 25 pieces of junk to get to the good stuff.
I have also been consistently surprised at what contributions get the most “Gourmet” votes (basically a “like”). My own highest-scoring contribution was
Why it got 202 votes I will never know. It was also quoted in the monthly Funny Times humor journal.
My second ranking post was
at 74.
You can just never tell what’s going to resonate with people.
Goodbye Ruminations.
