Goodbye, my good McLendon Cat. Thank you for the 17 years of companionship and love. Thank you for all your kitten antics, for the dead rodents you brought home, for adopting my nephew for a while and sleeping in his bed every night. Thank you for being the peaceable one, when other cats were wanting to pick fights. Thank you for finding your way home after we were so sure you had been lost and killed. Thank you for adapting so well to being a one-eyed cat, after your bout with glaucoma. Thank you for putting up with busy humans who didn’t want to pet you all the time, though you would have preferred that. Thank you for going with so much dignity, and for waiting for me to be able to let you go, even if it was a little past time and you were more than ready.
It sounds like he had a heck of a life, and a good family. You’ve reminded me to give my little mini-poodle a good squeeze and petting, because you never really know how much time you have left with them.
i’m so sorry to read this, XaMcQ.
been there, done that, as you very well know.
i had 20 years with my beloved Murphy, and he is in my thoughts daily.
take strength in the fact that McLendon knew darn well he was was loved, and i’ll tell Miss Speck all about him tonight when i get home.
hugs to you and the hubby and i’ll see to it Miss Speck gets lots of extra petting in your honor.
