Google Art? Who likes todays Escher ?

So check out todays google art. It’s an escher I think…

Anyone know where to find the list of all of them?

Do you mean a list of all of the Google art? Or a list of Escher? Because I didn’t know there WAS a list of the “Googles.” It always brightens my day a little when they change the logo art!

Well, here’s the list of 2003 Google Holiday Logos, if that’s what you mean

woo! google art!

not sure if you knew, Phlosphr, but if you hover over it the alt description will tell you why it is like that.

Oh yeah!! Thats great. And if you click it it brings you to the google search of Escher… Oh the simple things in life!

It would mine too - if I were observant enough to notice!

Oh well, at least you guys keep me informed.

I appreciate the heads up – I keep google in my toolbar at work, so I don’t usually go the the home page; I miss all the good art. sniff.

I like that one. Always enjoyed Escher.

Yeah, Google art kicks butt. The great thing about it is it’s not always the obvious holidays. You can learn quite a bit by setting Google as your home page…

Yay for Escher!
Yay for Google art!

That’s all I have to say.

What ** Kn*ckers ** said!

That’s just damn awesome–the whole idea.

Is it Escher’s birthday or something? Usually the Google arts are done for some occasion.
Oh, and M C Escher is my favourite artist.

Well, yay for Escher. He’s amazing. Yay for Google for doing the logo thing and promoting great art.

But am I the only one to think that that logo isn’t up to the standard of old M.C? He’s hard to match, of course, and the format is pretty restrictive, but I had to hover and see the text to get it. In my opinion, Escher´s appeal lies as much in the high level of craftmanship and understanding of the media as in his amazing ideas and paradoxical subject matter. At least to me, that’s what makes his stuff recognizable.

Am I just being unfair & whiny here?

Yes, I think you are

But that’s OK - Escher is not one of the “masters,” as it were.

But he still created beautiful things.

I recognized what Google was getting at immediately. My first thought was:

“What? Is there an Escher festival somewhere today?”

But the I did the hover thingy and saw it was his birthday.

Three Cheers For Google for remembering the esoterical as well as the everyday stuff.

It’s cool when they do this. Last year they had a Dali logo up briefly on the day before his birthday, and they didn’t put it up the next day. I assume there were legal problems. Too bad, because it was very cool - the Google logo over “The Persistence of Memory” with two of the watches as the “oo”. Fortunately I saved it.

I liked it. I did a really geeky and emailed google art to some friends. heh

That would explain it. I always wondered why unlike every other holiday logo, the Dali one is not included in the archive linked above. Does anyone know anything more about this?

You can see the Dali logo here:

I like the sentiment, and most Google art, but I didn’t think that was very well executed.

rico, I’ll just go hide somewhere then
