Google TV Ethernet active but websites unavailable ?

I gave up trying to connect to the internet on my Google TV upstairs wirelessly. I tried a Ethernet cable with a wifi range extender, got connected and everything was fine.

When the clocks had to be changed last weekend, I suddenly lost the connection. I had to reset the time manually on the* Settings* page, but I didn’t change anything concerning the internet connection. The Settings page still says “Ethernet connected(active)”.

I’ve tried to unplug the cable and turn the TV off to see if that will help, but it didn’t make a difference. I also unplugged the range extender and tried different antenna positions, but nothing helped.

I get an error message on the screen that says “website unavailable” no matter what website I try to go to.

Any other ideas?

Reboot… (which means: turning off, then unplugging for 20 seconds, then plugging back in and turning back on); So reboot the Google TV device, the range extender, and your internet router.

I would turn everything off…
Turn on internet router first and wait a couple of minutes for it to get up and running.
Then turn on range extender.
Then turn on Google TV.

FYI - I have had poor luck with wireless devices, but better luck with devices wired directly to the internet router using CAT 7 Ethernet wire - up to 100 ft. long!

Note Cat 7 Ethernet wire is not available at local stores, I had to order it from the internet. It is “shielded” and will give you faster speeds than Cat 6 or Cat 5.

I tried Cat 5 and it would not work at all for streaming TV at 100 ft. The older Cat 5 and Cat 6 will work for slower computer connections. But we are headed toward 1 gigabit internet connections… You need a very good quality cable for those speeds! (And you get what you pay for.)

Thanks Me Billy, just ordered some 7 Cat cable.
