I’m outside of Buffalo and was out yesterday on my Triumph Tiger. It fin
ally snowed a tiny bit last night. The latest date ever to have a measurable snow fall. Forecast to warm up most of the week.
I love my Aerostich with the electric fleece liner. Pricey but 12 years on good as new.
Tried to ride this afternoon but the damned battery went flat in the cold weather. Have somewhere to be tonight, going to have to push start it on the street while the neighbours snigger.
This battery was in need of replacement years ago, I should just bite the bullet.
I have been wavering on getting an Aerostitch for a couple of years. That initial cost outlay is just such a big number. I’ve bought running motorcycles for less than that. Still jealous though. I’ll bite the bullet eventually.
I was talking about the upcoming riding season with a friend this past weekend. We kick off each year with an early season ride he calls The Spring Zing. This is the description he sent for this years route:
Any of yinz care to join us or just meet up somewhere along the way for a refreshing beverage? We’ll be leaving from Moon Township PA.
It’s worth it. Piece of advice though; go through the fitting process very very deliberately. Do the exchange shuffle as many times as you need to to get a perfect fit. They last forever, so you’ll have years to think about anything that annoys you. My first suit, I talked myself into believing it fit so I could take it on an already scheduled trip. Bad idea.
Scootergirl went out today. It was in the mid-30’s here in the Willamette Valley. I had to work or I’d a gone with her. I haven’t had any of my scoots fired up for weeks. It’s either too cold or too rainy or both. I am getting a terrible itch.
Bump. Here in Western Montana we’ve had a week of just-warm-enough-to-rain days followed by a cooler but beautiful sunny day, so with the roads mostly clear I was able to do my first ride of the year! I managed to burn half a tank, and I burned a full tank on my last ride in the second week of December, so my “no winterization” policy is once more paying off!
Another endorsement of the 'stich here. At least where I am, these freakish middle-of-winter 40 degree days are usually accompanied by rain and so having something that’s absolutely waterproof that you can bundle up under really extends the season. It also deflects any accusations of “motorcycling as fashion statement.”
I am so jealous! I have to put my bike away in storage for the winter, so once it’s sheltered - it’s sheltered for the season. I can’t wait to have a garage where I can pop in and out according to the weather conditions.
Looking to buy a nice set of summer leather gloves from Revzilla (I have a gift cert.). Anybody have any recommendations? This is what I’m replacing is kinda like this, but made by Bristol and has no armor.
Just bought a set of thermal undergloves for under my winter gauntlets. Going to target the date of March 12th for getting the bike out of storage, it’s been that good of a winter. The bike itch is getting fierce, watching bike reviews on Youtube while my baby languishes!
Any summer glove recommendations are still welcomed!
I’m looking for the hardware to mount my cell phone where I can see it while riding for navigation purposes.
I like thisX-grip thingy. My most frequent riding companion uses one on a handlebar mount on his bike. I would prefer to mount it on my tank. I need to find out which of these balls is properly threaded to replace the factory screws.
I put about 20,000 miles on a set of Scorpion SG3 gloves. They fit really well (for me anyways) and had good dexterity and ventilation. Unfortunately, after many thousand miles of use some of the stitching started coming apart. The place I bought them from took them back on warranty but they didn’t carry them anymore, so I had to settle for a similar set by Speed and Strength which don’t fit as good and are even uglier.
The one thing I really look for in gloves is palm sliders. I have a nice metal screw in my scaphoid that I almost certainly wouldn’t have if at the time I’d been wearing gloves that had them. I got the Scorpions because those were the cheapest gloves at the time with Knox’s scaphoid protection system (which as far as I can tell is basically just a fancy word for “palm sliders”.) Although I just noticed they’ve got some new lightweight gloves with the SPS on Revzilla in the $50 range… I might need to pick some of those up.
I bought a couple pairs of these last spring. I figured that they were so cheap that I would consider them disposable. They turned out to be pretty comfortable and the first pair held up through a full season of riding and a couple washings. If they come apart this year, I still have the second pair unopened.
Yikes, look at the review on the Amazon page where someone posted pictures from a 15 MPH lowside wearing those! I’m as much of a cheapskate as anyone, but you don’t have to spend a whole lot more to get a pair that actually might protect you in a spill. Heck, even a similar-priced set of leather work gloves would probably do better.
61 degrees here today, but I left the bike in the shed. Too much anti-skid and other loose crap on the roads from the snow we had Thursday. I contented myself with putting the new registration sticker on it and running it unti the engine and exhaust were thoroughly warm. I anticipate riding season will start early this year.
