Got mine out for a short ride yesterday. It was supposed to be in the low 60s but was only about 55 and cloudier/breezier than forecast. Other than the liner for my jacket I’m not really equipped for cold weather riding, and I got pretty chilly after only about 20 minutes.
What kind is it? I’d be curious to know the make, model and size of the engine.
I used to ride a Honda 750 (circa 1975) and everyone knew raved about it. I thought it was a real dog.
Everyone wowed about how you could place a glass of water on the seat when it was running and the water wouldn’t even move.
I always countered with, “WTF does that have to a good ride?” I wanted a bike with some power. My friend had a Yamaha 1200 and that thing was amazing. Zero to Sixty in the blink of an eye. What an amazing bike!
Finally got both of mine out - short ride each just to get the fluids moving. Probably been a handful of days I could have gotten them out, but kept procrastinating. Seems I’m riding less for fun and just commuting on them, and it has definitely been too cold in the mornings to push it.
I leave Friday for my Costa Rica/Nicaragua motorcycle trip (rental through a company, not my own bike). That should satisfy me for awhile!
Wow! That will be awesome. I’ve been to both countries. My father lived in Managua for a few years, and my brother in San José. Have a blast and stay safe. Would love to read about it when you get back.
¡Disfruta tu viaje!
I ran the Sportie around rte 65 for a bit after I tuned the tires and all that stuff. It was a little greasy in the corners with all the salt dust but not as bad as I expected. I have hopes of using it for work tomorrow.

Saw a guy on a Honda Hornet 600 at lunch today. The smug look on his face was probably a figment of my imagination, my bike being in storage is really starting to get to me.
Saturday was sunny and in the upper 60’s. Busted the bike out for a mid-day ride from glorious Beaver Falls down to Moundsville, WV, across the river to Steubensville OH, and back up 22 to Robinson Township for a glass of refreshment at the Tilted Kilt before heading home. One of the guys I ride with maintains this site where he documents such outings.
I rode to work this morning. My hands were frozen (even with my winter leather gloves) by the time I arrived, but I enjoyed every minute of my commute.
Wanted to bump this …
Out here in the California High Desert there are always days during the winter that are warm enough for a midday ride. For me the beginning of the riding season is when it is warm/light enough in the mornings I can commute to work. Last Monday was that day for me. It’s still chilly enough I have to dress pretty warm, but its doable. Hopefully the morning weather will last through September…
We set the date for this ride for May 14 for anybody who would care to join us, even if for only a few miles somewhere along the way. Departure will be from the Robinson Township Sheetz at 9:30 am. From there to Johnstown for lunch then a little farther east to Schellsburg. The return leg will be back through Laughlintown and Greensburg and back to Robinson, most likely finishing up at The Trilted Kilt.
Got the bike out on the 10th of April. It’s been uglier in March and April than it had been in February. Goddamn it.
Thanks to all for your recommendations on gloves. I bought silk liner, and when that wasn’t enough, I bought Venture Carbon 12 volt electrically heated gloves. They’ve been delivered to my American address, can’t wait to try them out.
The cold storage temps seemed to be too much for my seats. They were in rough shape before they went it, but now they’re cracked all to hell.
Not having a garage farking sucks.
The original plan was to put the bike on the road the first of April, weather has been gorgeous, and then ride down to Palm Springs a couple of days ago.
It’s about 2000 miles, so a couple of long days in the saddle, but then I stepped off a counter top and torn my meniscus on the weekend and plans were changed.
So, to the airport I went. And by the pool I sit.
I hope I’m healthy enough when I get back home to put her on the road.
Sounds like it was a hell of a party, at least!
Mine stayed in the garage all winter, inspection sticker died in November. Now that it’s finally really getting warm I’m getting ready to get it back on the road.
The better parties are down here, and nothing beats recuperating in the Palm Springs heat. Home in a week or so and I’ll be back in the saddle.
Have had a number of absolutely perfect riding days here in ATL. Did one of my coworkers a favor while she is out of the country by riding over to her house and getting a package off her front stoop. She has one of those wireless doorbell things that sends her an alert and a video if someone rings her doorbell. Anyway, her house is in a new housing development and there is still lots of construction going on.
Flash forward, I get home and realize I have picked up a screw in the rear tire. And not just any screw. It is a (seriously, I measured) 3 inch long deck screw. It’s so long it actually bent, I’m assuming from hitting the alloy rim.
Luckily, as long as the tire was hot, it sealed perfectly around the head of the screw and did not deflate. As soon an I got it home and the tire began to cool, it began to loose air and deflate.
Here is a pic of the offending screw.
Put new tires on the C14, changed the earl, and got a new inspection sticker. The Spring Zing is only 3 weeksish away. Even though I’ve been riding already, I consider the Zing to be the official start of the riding sesson. I rode to work yesterday and the chirrun were as fascinated by the bike and helmet as if they had never seen them.
