"Gotcha Ya" comes to pass as dead man stands at own wake

And so, Wildest Bill’s vision comes to pass, the family of a dead man in Puerto Rico had their son specially embalmed so he could remain standing - in the corner, wearing sunglasses and a Yankees cap, no less - throughout his three-day funeral. And he looks so lifelike if you ignore that waxy pallor and the fact that you know he’s dead when he’s freaking STANDING RIGHT NEXT TO YOU BEHIND THE FERN!

The origin of “Gotcha Ya.”

So, I bet everyone thought the premise for Weekend At Bernie’s was farfetched.

Aw, man! I saw this story yesterday and didn’t think of it! I even use “gotcha ya” in regular conversation.

And what, may I ask, was wrong with the regular embalming treatment and a stick?

What’s brown and sticky?

You don’t want to know.

I wonder if anyone tried to converse with him and come away thinking his personality was rather wooden… hardly the life of the party.

Fortunately, though, there was an open bar at the wake, so it was zombies for everyone!

That is, without question, one of the creepiest things I’ve ever seen on the internet (I’m having a hard time looking away from the picture, trying to figure out WHY it’s so damned creepy). They didn’t mention in the article how many nightmares the standing corpse gave every kid who looked at it.

If, at 24, my child comes to me and tells me what he’d like to look like at his wake, I think I’m going to re-examine my parenting skills and find out where I went wrong.

That would BLOW MY MIND

I love this place.

No shit.

What’s brown and sticky?

A stick

I’ve got to agree with you. I found myself getting a bit ill looking at the picture. There’s something very wrong about the whole idea.

Well that’s one creed to live life by: Live fast, die young, and tell your family ahead of time that you want to leave a good looking, pimped out and erect corpse. :dubious: :frowning:

Count me in too. I clicked on one of the pictures to see it better and I really wish I hadn’t. It gave me major heebie jeebies.

Someone should cut out a bubble from cardboard, and stick above his head, with “must eat brains…” written on it. Or LOLCatz the pic.

I am definitely going to hell.

Am I the only one who thinks he looks well, just stupid? Certainly a family can grieve any way it wants to and if it makes them feel better to be following his wishes, so be it, but I’ve seen too much* Six Feet Under* to be squicked out by embalmo corpse guy lurking in the corner…

Worse than the one awhile back where the guy was sitting in his recliner, watching the game? This one is at least funny in some inexplicable way; that recliner guy just made me sad.

Morbo, you rule.

…just in case someone needed a stiff drink.

Why am I reminded of the elaborate headstones that Russian gangsters get?

It’s “Pimp My Headstone”
