Yeah, they have something like 34 Grammys between them.
This thread is creepy. Some of you guys are creepy…
I think she is more talented than that performance showed - I don’t consider her the best vocalist around, but she’s usually stronger than that. As for the song itself, it was wretched. She’s done better.
That would have been AWESOME!!!
Do you mean the song? That was "Get Lucky"by Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams. I really like it, and I REALLY enjoyed that performance last night - so funky!
My overall comment on last night’s Grammys was, “That was so Boomerific!” There was lots there for Boomers, and there was lots there for young folks (as there should be). Not a lot for us Gen X’ers, though. Sniff.
Pink was awesome as usual; she’s done the aerial thing before, though - she needs to expand her repertoire. Lorde’s performance was exactly as you’d expect from a 17 year old with black-tipped fingers and black lipstick - perfect.
Oh yeah, Pharrell Williams’ hat. There…are no words.
Except for LL Cool J, Queen Latifa, Madonna, Metallica, NIN and Dave Grohl…?
Oh yeah. Okay, the rest of my post still stands.
Holy shit. I thought you were exaggerating, but I just checked and counted 36. 17 for Beyonce and 19 for Jay-Z.
Sometimes we forget, since some of them are on “classic rock” stations now
Different strokes, I guess. She sounds very average to me. I honestly don’t think she’d make it through the first round of American Idol, but obviously, I’m wrong.
And Daft Punk, I forgot about them. Really? Get Lucky? Motorcycle helmets and don’t talk? Wow, ? and the Mysterions time. Nobody’s ever seen him without his shades.
I can see 13-year old girls thinking that’s cool, but not adults. But obviously, I’m wrong.
I got the Daft Punk album (“Random Access Memories”) today and have really enjoyed it. I like Taylor’s Swift’s “Red” as well.
I think maybe rap should be relegated to the Spoken Word category as it has so little to do with what I consider music. I always thought it was invented so people who couldn’t sing could have recording careers. And it worked.
You’re probably right. But making it anywhere in American Idol isn’t a great indication of anything other than making it in American Idol. A huge number of famous bands and musicians would not have done well in American Idol.
I guess. I think her vocal chops are fine but, more importantly, she just sells the song to me. It sounds sincere and honest, like she really believe it. And, as a 17-year-old, I bet she does. That’s what makes her vocals resonate with me. I like chops, but “soul” is much more important to me. And she has the “soul” to make me believe her singing. As they say, “it don’t mean a thing if you ain’t got that swing.”
Yeah, de gustibus and all that. I’ve been on the other end of the same argument, so I get it. There was a 70’s song called We’re All Alone by Rita Coolidge that my girlfriend of the time liked, but I thought it was boring. Rita was beautiful, and had a beautiful voice, and hit every note perfectly, but it just sounded robotic to me. I much preferred the Boz Scaggs version. He had a terrible voice, but he put a lot more feeling into it. IMO.
Hey, hey, hey! Boz Scaggsdoes not have a terrible voice!
Compared to Rita Coolidge, he does.
I know both versions, and like both of them. I’m not sure where Lorde is in this argument. I’d say she’s both Rita and Boz. She’s probably more towards the Rita end of the spectrum, but with enough emotion to make it believable and sincere. Meanwhile, I really love – and I’m not being facetious – the Puddles the Clown take on it.
I enjoyed most of the show. To me it started off on the slow side, but started to get better when Urban and Clark brought the guitars out. I can enjoy most of the other music, but hey, guitars!
i was actually asking about the instrument that Stevie Wonder was playing. I think Kazakhstan goat herders are familiar with the song at this stage.
Ding! A winner.
I know music. I know good music, bad music and mediocre music. Hers is the latter. Pink’s is the former. But it’s all opinion, and I’m entitled to mine just like you’re entitled to yours. How that translates to a snotty comment from you escapes me.
Alrighty-then. It’s a Marcodi.
