Graphic novel purchases-

LOVECRAFT - from a screenplay by John Carpenter, semi-biographical horror tale of HPL as warning us about the Old Ones

LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN II- Wellsian Martians, Dr Moreau, a cameo by Mr. Toad of Toad Hall- and Hyde’s moment of glory. WOW!

Parts 3 & 4 of the Marvel rendition of Stoker’s DRACULA (begun in the one-shot magazine LEGION OF MONSTERS- now I gotta find 1 & 2).

the new TOMB OF DRACULA w/ Noah VanHelsing overseeing a legion of vampire hunters including Blade & a cute female Dracula-relative

Damn, I’m happy!

I bought graphic novels 4,5 & 6 of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series at the weekend and still, due to work, haven’t had a chance to look at them.

Bugger.

I bought and read Lucifer: Mansions of the Silence and Lucifer: Exodus yesterday.
They weren’t bad, but I was a tad disappointed. Judged by the previous books they weren’t up to scratch, IMO.
Both League I and II are outstanding. Have fun!

I have the full US run of the Lupin The 3rd manga series.

I have the full run of Transmetropolitan on order.

I have the first 15 volumes of the DC Comics Archive Editions: The Complete Spirit, by Will Eisner.

Really? I thought Exodus was fantastic, especially the second story/ies. Mansions of the Silence was good too, although I enjoyed it more on subsequent readings. And of course Inferno is a damn tough act to follow. But I’m champing at the bit for the next volume, which comes out in June – earlier than I’d originally expected, thank heavens.

By the way, folks, you can always discuss recent TPB and GN purchases in the Weekly Comic Book Discussion threads that CandidGamera starts.

Recently got this myself- the art is absolutely beautiful.
Nitpick: Carpeneter only wrote the intro to the book, I believe. The screenwriter’s name is Rodinoff.

My last GN purchase was Sleeper: A Crooked Line. I don’t know how I’m going to make it to the next and final Sleeper TPB.

I can be unbelievably picky sometimes! I just found the stories less elegant than usual - kind of contrived, and tacked onto the main story.

I was also expecting some kind of High Noon showdown between God and Lucifer, instead of which the whole previous buildup was defused to some extent. Left me feeling a bit deflated.

I recently got ahold of (I think) all the Sin City books. Prompted by seeing the movie, to read them. I didn’t read them before, and I’ve only gotten around to The Hard Goodbye yet.

For The Hard Goodbye, I have to say…the changes made to the movie generally are improvements

I got Powers Vol. 4 over the weekend. GodDAMN! That was a helluva book.

well, thanks to JAY AND SILENT BOB’S SECRET STASH in Westwood/L.A. yesterday, I got #1 & 2 of Marvel’s STOKER’S DRACULA. To think that was started in 1974, stalled & reactivated 30 years later, with all originally involved jumping back on- Wow!

Kevin Smith was also good enough to have signed a bunch of Buddy Christs & Silent Bob/Kevin Smith figures so I got a few of those.

I went comic book shopping yesterday and picked up the first Life During Wartime collection, the Powerless miniseries, and the Epicurus the Sage book.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Battle Angel Alita series by Kishiro (*Gunnm * in Japan). Ignore the cartoon that was made for it. It takes place in future Earth (maybe), a dystopia (of course), with a great female lead that kicks copious amounts of butt and cute as a button. I love it so much that I cosplay her at cons. Also a good reason to wear a pleather catsuit. meow

In the past month I have bought the Sin City, Sandman, and some Trigun and Cowboy Beebop. All great series.

Anyone read any good non-Japanese or -English based graphics? Any language?

boofuu

You know, Bodsa, I have the full run (well minus the first issue…one of my friends managed to lose that) sitting on my bookshelf. Even including Tales of Human waste, the volume of articles written by Spider. With the right kind of promise (“I’ll return them promptly and they won’t be in much worse shape than when I got them.”) I would have loaned them. Oh well, too late for that I s’pose.

Thank you.

That’s both kind & generous of you.But I’m the kind who reads & re-reads a book, so owning a set is something I’d enjoy.

I also got a decent discount online.
