Gray's Anatomy 1/25 [Spoilers]

If a show is scheduled to end at the hour and the network runs it past the end of the hour, Tivo will indeed cut off the end of your show regardless of any prioritizing.

In this case (gigi missed part of the program because of a phone call), the feature of a Tivo box (and all DVRs as far as I know) that would have helped is that it can pause live TV, so that it continues to record and lets you pick up later, or they at least cache the last 30-60 minutes of whatever channel you’re watching, so you can go back and review something you missed.

This is certainly true of sporting events. But for new-fangled tweaks of the schedule, like where Desperate Housewives run 1:01 and Brothers & Sisters is :59 – that *is * the network schedule, and Tivo knows it and plans accordingly.

I saw the Izzy donates the clinic money plotline coming several episodes ago. I like it but they’ve been making it very obvious.

Can Ellis really just, “wake up?” Isn’t Alzheimer’s irreversable?

That’s what I thought. Although they showed her in the hospital, so perhaps Derek performs some miracle surgery to restore her memory?!? Google shows links to surgeries involving implantation of genetically modified tissue, but it serves only to slow the progress, not restore memory.

Yeah, that struck me as a little odd, though. Guess who’s not gonna go to Amish heaven now.

But Bailey has stopped pouting and has returned to her take-charge, no-nonsense former self. I thought it was really great that Richard told her that she belongs in the Chief of Surgery chair. I guess this means that, since she’s not eligible yet, she’s not an attending?

Hey, this is the show where cojoined adult twins are separated in one day of surgery and are out of the hospital before the next episode. It would be surprising in this show if she didn’t start showing surgery techniques to all the interns.

This has never happened to me in over 3 years of happy TiVownership. The only time I could see it happening is for a show scheduled to run after a sporting event, a presidential address, or some other event where the exact start times are indeterminate. The worst that’s happened to me is that the “Next week on…” previews occasionally get cut off. All the LOST episodes that have been longer than 1 hour have been correctly scheduled and recorded automatically by my TiVo.

Your mileage should really not vary.

You can watch Gray’s free on ABC.com, you just have to sit through a few commercials…

Like I said, that’s because they’re SCHEDULED to run long. If they’re SCHEDULED to run long, yes, the Tivo knows that and records the whole show. If, however, they just run long because they’ve been pushed back for some reason, they WILL get cut off.

I understood you the first time. I was emphasizing how rare such situations are, an important point I think you missed.

Last week’s Grey’s Anatomy thread went nowhere.
This week’s thread has morphed into a Tivo debate.
Why do we even bother anymore?

I thought she was a Chief Resident or something like that, in charge of the fledglings but not an attending. I guess we’ve seen her do routine surgeries herself ? but for the major ones she seems to be assisting one of the Power Docs.

It seems odd Sloane would consider himself in the running, and maybe even Montgomery too. Burke–experience at Seattle Grace, Shepherd–promises made to get him there, Montgomery and Sloane–hired as top in their fields but not necessarily in line for Chief.

McSteamy?

He does nothing for me. In fact, I was hoping he’d reprise his roll in the new eries Painkiller Jane, just so he’d get out of Seattle Grace.

But by all means, Steam away.

He and Rebecca Gayheart are dating IRL. I feel like their combined over-the-top exaggerated beauty should cause some sort of implosion.

They’re actually married. And he does it for me in a big way, possibly because he resembles Marat Safin, one of my favorite tennis players.

And it’s interesting because on paper I should prefer McDreamy. I’ll admit Dempsey is very handsome, but I can’t stand his character. I think the writers have made him too perfect, too sensitive, too dreamy. (If he lowers his eyelids to half mast and talks in that half whisper voice one more time I’m going to throw something at the t.v.) It’s an odd choice for his character, because he was supposed to have been “absent” for his marriage to Addy. (Perhaps he spent 2/3 of his time riding the elevators in Boston like he does at Seattle Grace.) Anyway, I wish they’d make him more realistic, more flawed. Perfect is boring.

Oh, thanks. I see they’ve been married since 2004; I guess it didn’t register since I wasn’t familiar with him until Grey’s.

I hang in there for Patrick Dempsey because I liked him in Lucky 7 and he’s grown up to be an intriguing guy. Plus, there’s always the possibility he could mess up the way he did with Addison; it’s still the honeymoon phase. And he admits he made the wrong choice in choosing Addison there for a while. Or he just looks perfect in contrast with Meredith.
