It started on June 28, 1970 which was the first anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. Since then it has morphed into a variety of celebrations and events during the month of June.
If your talking about a “Gay Pride Parade”, then no, it is not a NYC event only.
San Francisco has a big one, and many other cities have their own, too, with smaller numbers of participants. (I know San Diego has one every year.)
Yes, I knew that many cities have Gay Pride events, but I hadn’t remembered the significance of the date. I have heard of Stonewall, but hadn’t put the date and the event together. Now I remember. Thanks. (So is the parade always June 28, or is it the Saturday closest to June 28?)
Sunday…In NYC, the parade is always the last Sunday in June.
