Great Driving Songs

I always liked “I Need A Man To Love” by Big Brother & The Holding Company as a driving song. Of course, it has to be played loudly.

If it’s in the wee hours and you’re away from city stuff, for a change you might like “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” by Iron Butterfly or “The End” by the Doors.

For a real change, Tales From The Vienna Woods, Emperor Waltz, and The Blue Danube work.

Can’t leave out “Red Barchetta” by Rush!

No mention of “Life is a Highway” by Rascal Flatts?

For a change of pace, a disc full of Motown.

Rob Zombie - “Dragula” - makes me drive faster! :stuck_out_tongue:

Loreena McKennit “The Mummer’s Dance” (the whole album) can make a long drive in the rain seem much shorter. Though it might be too relaxing.

…or the original version by Tom Cochrane.

Mississippi Queen, Mountain

Barracuda, Heart

Tusk, Fleetwood Mac (Actually, most of the greatest hits album works)

Long Cool Woman, The Hollies

Stray Cat Strut, Stray Cats

Seconded!!

Speaking of Rob Zombie, I heard “Thunder Kiss '65” on the radio earlier today.

You forgot, from “Nebraska”

Highway Patrolman
State Trouper
Open All Night

And from I think, Darkness on the Edge of Town, “Drive All Night”.

I would like to also add Robert Plant’s “Big Log”

“My love is in league with the freeway. And the coming of the nightime”

I Drove All Night, Cyndi Lauper

I like listening to this while driving King Tiger through the steppes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVJ9Ocxf8lY

No Eleison road trip is complete without at least one play of Glen Campbell’s “Wichita Lineman.”

The Road Goes On Forever by Robert Earl Keen

Rock Lobster and Love Shack - B52s
We Didn’t Start The Fire - Billy Joel
Pump It - Black Eyed Peas
Heart of Glass - Blondie
Baba O’Riley and Won’t Get Fooled Again - The Who
Don’t Look Back - Boston
I Want Candy - Bow Wow Wow
Hot Hot Hot - Buster Poindexter
The Ramones (pretty much anything)
The Devil Went Down to Georgia - Charlie Daniels
Rock the Casbah - The Clash
Pump Up the Volume - Colourbox

Earthless - Sonic Prayer

Sleepy Sun - Sandstorm Woman

Sleep - Dopesmoker

From The River, but depending on his mood, this would be a real downer. To me, sometimes it’s sexy and sometimes it’s time to put a bullet in my brain.

See if you can find a copy of this album. Then and roll down all the windows crank the stereo up to full volume as you rocket through the night along the Interstate, just like the Caped Crusader on a sacred mission:

Works for me every Bat-time!

I should have also mentioned REK’s Amarillo Highway.

Indeed, as Terentii says, above—selections from the various Batman soundtracks, to taste.

After that…I can suggest Willin’ by Little Feat (Or Linda Ronstadt, if you’re a James Cameron fan); and the theme from Race For Your Life, Charlie Brown right off the bat. I can dig out my specific “car cruising” playlist, if requested. Or my “emergency stay-awake mix,” for that matter.
