Green tree frog in house in winter (how best to deal with it)

I was watering my plants and noticed in my watering can I have a tree frog chilling there. I don’t know if he was hibernating or if he will go back. I don’t know if he has eaten anything for months (I brought the can in to the house late October.

Any advice on how to best deal with him? I don’t want to keep him, but I also don’t want to just throw him out to freeze.

Maybe I cover him with moist paper towels in a container and put him in the fridge until spring?

Do you have a wildlife rehab in your area you could call? That might be your best source of advice.

Awww… New pet.

I’d research their needs and habits and do the wildlife pet thing. But that’s me.

Maybe a big PetSmart is local enough and expansive enough they sell frogs(probably snake goodies). So you takes yer chances on that front.

That’s what I’d do.

I’d probably let him hang out until spring, though I suspect the frog will mysteriously vanish long before then.

He may react well to a kiss.

This is my expectation as well. I haven’t looked for him in the can. He’ll either chill there for a few months or jump out and hide somewhere. Depending on where, he might make it or not. I’d prefer he stay in the can undisturbed until spring.

What area is this?

Do you have a local college or agricultural extension office? They may be helpful, if you can’t reach a wildlife rehabber.
