I don’t think anyone has any doubt about that. Mangetout, I’m assuming, and many of us have gotten a great deal of entertainment from this. I’ve gotten to know about a whole world I didn’t know about before: scambaiting. On the other side, I can’t imagine that they’ve gotten much out of this.
What did you think Mangetout was hoping to get, other than five pages of hilarious material?
Well that’s good to know. If you’ve been informed and entertained by this, that’s great. But it isn’t anything new. There are many websites with people doing this. I would never have the time.
Well, it isn’t that hilarious, because so many people have done it before. It’s a really tired joke. But if he gets a kick out of it…
Seriously. The picture of David Beckham holding the *I’ve been Sporked! *sign and Ms. Dickson’s confusion about what, exactly, was being asked of her was worth the price of admission for me.
On one hand, I definitely laughed at Crandall’s antics.
But you know, after reading teh parallel thread about what life is really like in Nigeria, I gotta say that if I had had the misfortune to be born there I would probably be doing my best to part wealthy-yet-stupid foreigners from their money too…
I wavered towards sympathy a bit too, except - make no mistake - these guys are thieves. There can’t really be any justification for that. I might be doing it too, if I’d been born there, but that wouldn’t make it right.
I’ve always wondered how low these scammers would go. For instance:
You pretend to be a church run orphanage.
You received a large donation from the president of a large corporation (Health South, ENRON, MCI).
The bankruptcy court wants the money back, (the bait), but the orphanage has already spent a good bit of it. They’re counting on replacing it with Ms Dickson’s money (the hook).
Point well taken. I shouldn’t drop in just to be negative, and I apologize. (I was in a bad mood.) And Mangetout is pretty good at scambaiting. It’s one way of fighting crime.
