Well for all Canadian football fans you know that the Grey Cup is today and starts on TV in about… ohh 3 hours according to my TV. At present I am watching yesterday’s Grey Cup parade and plan to maybe go to the bar and win (hopefully) the bottle of whiskey that is being drawn for. All I can say is
Heh… yah we do Duck… the CFL… quite similar to NFL but there are a couple of rules slightly different (don’t ask me to say which ones I barely know any of OUR rules but people I know who know the rules better than I do have mentioned it.
Quick rundown on the rule differences I can remember: 3 downs, bigger field and end zone, adopted 2 point conversion before NFL (who didn’t?). Some others that I can’t remember.
AFAIK (with my limited sports knowledge, most of which is gleaned from my sports-freak husband telling me everything you ever wanted to know about sports but didn’t care enough to ask), another difference is that the backfield is allowed to be in motion in the CFL. And GO ESKS GO (even though they’re from Edmonton, at least they’re from Alberta.)
We’ve already reached our ‘only in the CFL’ quota and it’s only the first quarter. Punt block + punter picking up the ball + 50 yard heave down the field + pass interference penalty = first down Eskimos.
My favourite one of those plays in a Grey Cup was a few years ago when a player caught a ball on a long sideline pass after it bounced back into his arms off the toe of his shoe.
