Grimm

After Monroe got jumped outside the abandoned clock tower because he was helping the Grimm a few episodes back, Nick said he wouldn’t ask for Monroe to help him anymore. Monroe insisted Nick keep asking him for help because it upsets the status quo and he, Monroe, is not a status quo kind of guy.

Yeah, I know, but there’s a difference between Monroe saying he’s OK being targeted for helping Nick, and accidentally putting Monroe in danger for a different reason.

Or in other words, there are dangers other than the reapers and those are what I’d be worried about.

I also noticed this and it brought me pause. His partner’s reaction wasn’t surprise or intrigue or anything…like it was perfectly fine.

Something that threw me in this episode was that if everything was supposed to happen in a day why was there three separate night scenes? or did I miss something at the beginning with the whole explaining the anniversary thing?

When Juliette and Nick were talking on the phone, she mentioned their anniversary was tomorrow and he was late coming home a night scene, a day scene, and another night scene later. It wasn’t the clearest though.

Not a bad episode. Nick’s girlfriend seems to be doing better.

Frankly, the preview for next week didn’t seem all that impressive. Maybe if her being in danger does something to the relationship, but still, the writers seems to be taking their sweet time letting us in on the bigger picture.

I think I said it before, but if not, I don’t think the writers have thought much in advance, which is why we don’t get more back-story on the captain, or if Nick’s partner or girlfriend are not quite human.

I will definitely be impressed if we ever see those coins again. I’m always up for a bit of continuity. But it seems more likely to me that their purpose was to drive the story for this single episode and then vanish forever.

Well, there were originally 10. Nick has 3. Maybe the other 7 will show up later.

Also, I know that sci-fi and fantasy TV shows can’t help but make historical figures not human, or some sort of time traveler, or whatever, but I’m getting tired of this cliche. So of course Hitler was no different. Yeah, the coins possessing him didn’t bother me that much, but his being revealed to not be quite human was stupid.

There was definitely a One Ring type of aspect to the coins. I wonder what effect taking them away will have on Nick’s partner and The Captain. I doubt they’ll get over it quickly.

I would have melted, or at least attempted to melt, the coins if I was Nick.

WHile I agree that its a trope and a bit cliched - it did answer a very important question we have been asking -

If a vessen ‘transforms’ and its caught on film - can Nick see it?

we don’t know about a still photo at this point, but its been answered for film.

I liked monroes bit “now stamps!” - but I really don’t want them to use the trailer for ‘spot unusual item, need that item this episode’ - unless he is there looking for info on the beast he is hunting and it leads to that item.

Why?

The coins are nothing but trouble. The possess just about everybody that gets their hands on them. They’re too dangerous to allow to exist.

I dunno. It seemed to take Hank only an evening to get more or less back to normal. Not to say there wouldn’t be ramifications if he found the opportunity to acquire the coins again, but I suspect in day-to-day matters he’ll be just fine. The fae creatures seemed to have a much harder time with obsession; maybe there’s a Sam Gamgee kinda thing going on?

Admit I was kind of surprised to see the captain fall for it so hard. Up to now he’s seemed pretty canny, and I would’ve thought he’d at least recognize what’s going on well enough to take precautions (or at least fight against it).

I agree with the candidates for groan-worthy moments: the Hitler reveal, Monroe just happening to have notice and have experience with the camera …

Julia, Nick’s girlfriend, is really confusing me.

I swear when she was staring off into space last episode, it seemed like she was contemplating “do I stay or do I go now?”

And what’s up with holding onto the ring for months and not proposing? I get that he’s under a lot of stress but she’s gotta wonder WTF is going on. She can’t just chalk it all up to the aunt. Although perhaps she’s extra-understanding this episode with the whole aunt thing.

Do we know if the aunt’s ex-fiance was being truthful? He *did *try and run off with the coins. Or was he trying to keep them safe? I can’t tell if 1) he was telling the truth about the aunt and 2) if he’s a good guy now. I’m leaning towards a combination: that he was with Nick’s aunt and was a good guy but now he’s a bad guy since he’s handled the coins and isn’t impervious to their effects.

And we need more Monroe. LOTS more.

The coin shop owner didn’t seem to have delusions of grandeur. I’m wondering if he was a Grimm, or if he just never came into physical contact with the coins (until he ate them).

The captain had more of a desire to dominate, being the local Fairy Prince and all. Because the coins dig into his desire for what he wants anyway, they dig incredibly deep and he doesn’t realize that it’s not all his idea.

Hank, on the other hand just wants to go out and beat up bad guys, so he gets magical Roid Rage.

The coins seem to work by blocking out the rational inhibitions their victims minds that tell them acting on these desires is not necessarily a good thing, and seriously jacking up said desires at the same time.

He kept them in the lead-lined case that Nick stole from the evidence locker to put them in when he got them.

IIRC, Aunt Marie’s former beau asked how long ago she died, and Nick’s answer was ‘Four months’. This is a heck of a lot of strange cases popping up in a four month period. What # episode was this? The average would be 2-3/month?

I worried that Monroe was acting suspicious in the trailer, and would show some hint of being untrustworthy. I wondered if even touching the coins, like Nick did, left some whiff of them that another creature could sniff out. Probably not a good idea to hide them there in the treasure trove of Grimm paraphernalia in a lightly secured environment.

So it’s been four months since Nick bought the ring, and if he was planning to give it to Juliette on their anniversary but was delayed…did he give it to her? I didn’t notice if she was wearing it in this episode. IRL, some men notice something like that immediately, so maybe someone else noticed it.

There was a closeup of Juliette’s face in the scene when they were talking about her checking out the details of Nick’s parents’ crash. The camera seemed to focus on her when she made a face, and I wondered if she was trying to prevent a change. But maybe a closeup is just a closeup.

Yeah, but how’s he gonna get to Mordor from Portland?

The Hitler thing… the coins on his jacket was nice and creepy, but him turning into a vessen… oy vay. Actually makes him seem less monsterous, somehow.

I literally lol-ed when Hitler turned into a blutbad. I don’t think that was the reaction the writers wanted. Grimm manages to be so ridiculous at times, and yet I still keep watching. I’m not sure why. It has this weirdly addictive quality to it. I also feel like I should take a shot every time a local Portland product or place is named or seen onscreen.

Did anyone else catch the “giant sausage” line from Monroe about the giant eagle wessen? Maybe it’s because I have a dirty mind, but that was on my mind when they revealed the relationship between Colt and Aunt Marie. Good for you, Aunt Marie.
