Grow up, leander.

Shit, why didn’t you bring up the “can of pineapples” reference too?

I also use Dogpile from time to time. I don’t really want a nickname for that. :stuck_out_tongue:

Geez Q.E.D., that answer clearly came from the steaming dogpile.

Heh, it took me a while to figure out wtf you were talking about. I guess we’re even then  (In any case, your GF’s thread was much more entertaining than leander)

Other than the fact that I only know some things about a very few subjects, the above is frequently how I operate around here. If I’m home and near an actual book on the topic at hand, I’ll pick that as a refresher and for cites. But otherwise google is a useful enough tool as long as you know something about the topic and can therefore have a shot at filtering out the random bullshit it might throw up ( it also helps to narrow your search parameters to the proper specifics ).

Can I make a reservation for an insult too, please?

What’s wrong with Google Scholar? It’s pretty comprehensive AFAIK.

You’re all bitches for letting the discussion about the design of the Enterprise on the shitty new Star Trek movie go 6 fucking pages whilst my thread about Blood Meridian, one of the greatest American novels of all time, went ignored. Pussies.

Consider this thread derailed

Wow, Google boy decided to pit me.

Yes, I agree it was some “childish bullshit”. Frankly, it was stupid of me to engage the little fella. I regret that.

This is the crux of Google boy. He produces wrong answers over and over and over again, because he just must be the first one to answer. It’s sad and pathetic and antithetical to the purpose of this board. And yet he does it all the time without even a warning.

BINGO!

Then you would be totally wrong. As most people here know (including the mods), Google boy knows very little about very little – but he tries to impress the newbies with his Google skills and often does fool a bunch of people. He’s a 40+ yr old Radio Shack technician who was fired from a volunteer position on a TV show because he’s an idiot – and so he spends his free time trolling GQ and Googling answers so he can fool people like you into thinking he “knows an awful lot about an awful lot…” Stick around, you’ll see he’s a fraud.

You all are of course free to continue to pit me – but at the end of the day, if you care at all about this place and its mission statement then you will see Google boy for what he really is – a fraud and a drain on fighting ignorance.

Would you mind linking to an example or two? I agree that if he really does that, he deserves some scorn.

Here, in a GQ thread on what a “damascene conversion” was: I’ll admit to googling to confirm the Bible verses I quoted, but that’s not the same as not having a clue about the correct answer but posting the first result off a search engine anyway.

I agree that what he did there was a bit tacky, but in his defense, he did include the phrase “from what I can tell,” which pretty much discloses that he is basing his answer on an internet search and not personal knowledge.

Are there any situations where he actually pretended to have that sort of personal knowledge but was wrong?

Two years ago? One example from two YEARS ago? You’re going to have to do better than that if you want to support leander’s assertion that I produce “…wrong answers over and over and over again, because * just must be the first one to answer.” I mean, really.
