I do see your point and I think it’s valid. My issue is that for many GQ is the doorway to the rest of the board. Searching for an answer to something on the web they stumble across the board. So if they find Google boy or some other idiot giving a crap answer then they may be turned off from this place.
I’ve been around the Dope for a while and I almost never post in the Pit. I neither have any interest in what Q.E.D says nor in whether he is who he claims or not.

You claim to care about the quality of answers in GQ, yet never make an effort to contribute yourself. You claim to have evidence of a repeated pattern of bad answers yet post jack shit when you finally get around to linking anything at all. You claim to care about how Q.E.D poisons the well of GQ, but instead of directly challenging him have used the same tactics my 6-yo niece uses to bother her older brother.
In short, you make no contribution to the fight against ignorance you claim to care so much about. If anything you are part of the reason the rest of us are sorry, “it’s taking longer than we thought.”
I suggest you gather the few remaining shreds of dignity left to you, take some time off from the Board, and come back later.

Thank you. I have looked at your examples, and there is enough evidence there (in my opinion) to sustain a charge that QED doesn’t know nearly as much as he thinks he does and feels a need to demonstrate his (lack of) knowledge to others.
However, you have not sustained your “google boy” accusation, in my opinion. In other words, you haven’t shown evidence that QED has a habit or practice of reading questions regarding subjects in which he is ignorant; doing google searches on the question; and giving some lame response which results from his lack of understanding.
Indeed. With handy the google connection was pretty obvious. If anything leander’s examples show that Q.E.D. is more of a Cliff Clavin type.
But Q.E.D. isn’t any worse than a lot of others answering in GQ. He just much more prolific than most and, perhaps because of that, seems to always pounce for the first post.
I would disagree with comparing Q.E.D. to Handy. Q.E.D.'s posting style is nothing like Handy’s. Handy often as not would just pull an answer out of his ass, and then never return to the thread when called on his bullshit. One example I recall was he claimed that the oil drain plug on a Volkswagen is a left hand thread. (It isn’t, I have done oil changes on them) when I called him on it, he never returned to the thread.
Q.E.D. in general does not do drive by posts, and his correct/incorrect ratio is way higher than handy could have ever hoped to achieve.
As an asker of unpopular GQs, I welcome those jokes to keep my threads afloat while I get a real answer.
It is my personal impression that some of our experts are more drawn to bad answers than to good questions, so these also serve a function.

With no dog in this fight, this is the most sensible point in it, so far. You cannot accuse QED of googling life away and use wrong answers for proof. If he were googling everything, he should never be wrong.
