Last night, I watched part of the telethon on MSNBC. Mike Myers and a rapper, whose name I didn’t catch, were asking for donations. When it was the rapper’s turn to speak, he got real emotional as he asks for donations. Actually, I can’t remember if he asked for money or not but he was ranting about the poor people who couldn’t leave. I felt bad for Mike Myers because it was awkward. I also felt bad for the rapper because he was hurting for the victims. I was starting to tune everything out again when Mike Myers wipes his eye with his middle finger. He was trying to subtly flip the bird without getting caught (just like one of those SNLers did on the Oscars when someone went off on a tangent).
Mike Myers, I’m not an idiot. I know you’re trying to get by with the one finger salute! I don’t know if you were flipping off the rapper, but Grow Up! You’re older than me, so act like it when you are trying to raise money for victims of a disaster. You can be as juvenile as you want in your movies, but don’t be all cutesy and flip the bird on a telethon!
I didn’t catch that, though if I did I would feel the same way as you do. I was to busy listening to Kanye West who went off script, IMHO made vaild points up until his
and

Which once again IMHO hurt more then helped it.
Why don’t you go back and read EXACTLY what Kanye said.
Why don’t you put that in context with his remarks about AIDS at Live 8.
Why don’t you view both of those in the context of his recent comments about loving homosexuals.
If, after all this, you still think that Kanye is the aggrieved party in all this, please, by all means, say so.
I’ll have the lead-paint people over to your house to start cleanup right away. It’s too late for you, of course, but your kids may be able to avoid the worst of whatever your affliction is.
I grant you that. Still: I hate a lot of the fakeness of telethons, so it was nice to see it nicely derailed by someone too pissed by what was going on to keep it together.
And Kanye’s opinions are loony, regardless of how honest they are.
There are poor people in New Orleans, and they ain’t all black. I was one once.
“George Bush doesn’t care about black people” is NOT relevant to the issues in New Orleans right now, regardless of whether or not it’s closer to true than false.
I’d love to see an Oxford-Cambride debate between Kanye and Carl “Ain’t Nobody Ever SEEN a Tyrannosaurus Rex” Everett sometime.
Oh, for heaven’s sake. I strongly suspect Myers was just trying to keep himself and the webcast together while Kanye West went off on his (hysterical) rant.
Happy Scrappy. Again, I am not disputing it was the wrong time and place or that he could have done everyone a favor by not coming off as so angry, and possibly ungrateful. It was hysterical and unprofessional. All true. Still. It was good to see some honest raw emotion up there.
So how do those two quotes from his speech do anything to earn him a "attaboy? I can see a tirade like this
“Why where there predominantly African Americans left behind during the mandatory evacuation, why did they evacuate those from the hotels before those from the convention center who where much worse off and predominantly black, why does it seem like they are letting us die of thirst!”
If another prominent celebrity would insult those who had luxury cars, while he himself had 12 that would be the top of hyprocracy.
If another prominent celebrity said that AIDS was a man made disease placed in Africa, we would laugh him off his platform.
If another prominent celebrity said we where sending in the National Guard to shoot those in New Orleans he would be shunned.
What makes Kanye any different?
I don’t really know what Kanye said because I started to tune him out. I didn’t even know who he was. I never said he was the aggrieved party. I was just pissed that Mike Myers flipped the bird. He is a lot older than Kanye, he has been in the entertainment business (SNL) since I was in high school, and he should know better. He should have had the decency to flip Kanye off after the cameras stopped rolling is all I’m saying…not on air during a telethon.
I just watched the clip. Your right, he used his index finger. It didn’t look like that last night when I watched it on the air. My apologies to Mike Myer and anyone I offended.
