Let me tell you how long I’ve been waiting for this book: two days. For whatever reason, I had never read GRRM until last month, when I picked up “Game of thrones”, I worked through the next two and finished “A storm of swords part II” last Wednesday - a perfect segueway into the new one.
Not started it yet, in fact I had to leave it at work as I have stuff that simply has to get done this weekend. With GRRM around, there would be no chance.
What are people expecting from the book; is it going to be up to the impeccable standard set by the first three? Will it tread water whilst broadening the story or rush hell for leather onwards and upwards? Anyone concerned about where the series is heading?
The thing I’m most interested in seeing developing is the Game. If its all going off up North with man versus other, the comings and goings at King’s Landing are going to seem like small potatos. I hope that GRRM can keep the intrigue and skullduggery of the game of thrones dramatically relevant to the whole story.
The bookstore here in the States told me it wasn’t getting here until November, either! I’ve got pre-order in and everything. Where’s my copy, dammit!?
A friend ordered it for me to his London address and I have to wait till the end of the month when he goes to the UK. Heck, again no translating for few days.
Just bought it off eBay for 17 bucks plus shipping. Whooo! Thanks for posting this thread. I just finished Diana Gabaldon’s latest 900+ page epic and will hopefully have time to rest my eyes before I get this one.
Finished it myself yesterday, took it more sedately than you I think! Did you read it in a single sitting? A discussion thread is definitely in order, lets face it there is plenty to discuss. Don’t mind starting one now, but it might be better to wait till the majority of US readers on here have gotten their hands on it.
