I can’t view the image from work, but yes, the shoulder buttons are what makes the car go faster/slower. I’ll try again tomorrow – maybe the triggers work, too.
Here is an image of the in-game setup menu for the controller in GTA-V. It clearly shows the triggers are used for the brake and acceleration.
Maybe there are other setups where this is not the case but I do not know why you wouldn’t at least want the triggers to be brake and acceleration. Particularly since they are analog so avoid the “on/off” issue.
I’m going to do a steam broadcast stream for a couple of hours if anyone on the fence wants to see it in action. I think you can watch streams from a profile page or right click me on your friends list.
Rockstar Social Club reportedly hacked. Might want to change your password (and any place where you have a shared password)
Yeah, you and Whack-A-Mole are right of course. I thought I was hitting the shoulder, but I was hitting the trigger. I play almost no controller games. Sorry about that.
Do I really need to change my password? Annoying.
As the article notes it is not a sure or confirmed thing and there is reason to doubt it but to be on the safe side changing your password is probably wise.
Better safe than sorry sort of thing.
I have encountered a couple of bugs: every 3 or 4 times I launch the game my graphics settings have all been reset to the lowest possible settings, and occasionally the game will crash when switching characters. The character-switching crash has not yet occurred during a mission so that’s good, but still annoying.
Caution, there is a widespread rumor that playing your own music causes framerate drops and stuttering, and I agree. Waiting for a patch on that one.
I like several of the stations fairly well, but they don’t compare to Vice City or even GTA IV (LCHC rules!)
Trevor may well be my favorite video game character ever.
I haven’t played many video games, but I have played GTA 5. I agree about Trevor, what a character. I don’t want to spoil anything while the game is new, so at your leisure, search youtube for interviews with the actors who portray the main GTA 5 characters. That’s kind of a trip.
Damn this is without question one of the best games I’ve ever played. The gameplay has been perfectly balanced, and it’s not just the same mission over and over again. It’s the distillation of everything that’s good about GTA minus all the extra bullshit they tried out over the years in the name of “realism” that just ended up being pointless hassle, e.g. needing to eat and work out (San Andreas) or the pointless “hanging out and making friends” missions (GTA IV). All of the missions have a purpose to the overall story or really enrich the game world, even the side missions and random events. And of course you can still run around and fuck things up just for fun. I’ll be genuinely sad when I get to the end, but then I’ll just start over!
Yet the it still has annoying little things that persists from game to game. Why can’t health automatically regenerate after or when starting a mission? Why do I still need to find a healthkit or a street vendor to refill health? They fixed the very annoying missions being tied to a specific time of day, which is great, but some of the side-missions are still time bound.
I do like that you can save from the phone and you no longer need to access the Internet from a cafe.
Have any of you randomly lose large sums of money? I’d invested in the stock market with Franklin and when I switched back to him, the screen displayed -144090$. None of my stock trades justified such a loss. The money just poofed into oblivion apparently. A bug? Something I did?
My favorite thing about Trevor is the outfits. Guy looks hilariously awesome in anything. Currently I have him in a Pisswasser trucker hat, aviators, a pink “Pussycat” tank top, and orange short shorts, and somehow he still looks scary badass.
Fun little detail in the game, wearing sunglasses affects the first person view. If you wear pink shades the world has a pink hue.
Yeah, all the detail they’ve put in is really astonishing. The phone is harder to read when standing in sunshine, too. I actually thought it was a bug at first because I’ve read that some people have had problems with artifacting in the lower right corner, but the light levels adjust depending on whether you’re out of the sun or not.
If you buy a car/plane/chopper, take it out of its garage/hangar and destroy/abandon it, will it come back or have you just wasted a lot of money?
Aircraft will respawn at your hangar. Cars, besides the characters’ vehicles, will not. I have tested this. So if you’re going to spend money at the shop customizing cars, do it with Trevor’s truck, Michael’s sedan, or Franklin’s car and motorcycle.
And if you need one of these vehicles repaired but you can’t get to or afford a Pay ‘N’ Spray or whatever it’s called in this game, switch characters then switch right back. Your car will be back to new! (doesn’t work in-mission, of course)
I really look forward to switching to Trevor after playing for a while; he finds himself in the weirdest situations. My favourite is passed out drunk on top of a mountain wearing a too-short flowery dress, raging at the groinal chill.
Picked it up after reading this thread, and it was worth even paying full price. I haven’t put serious time into a GTA since Vice City, but this really seems to have all of the good things that GTA is known for with very little downside (though when playing as Michael, I have the urge to cover my house in sticky bombs and set them off with the family inside).
I absolutely love playing GTA in first-person perspective. That is one major improvement over any previous iterations of the series I have played. Thankfully, I have had zero issues with driving with the keyboard/mouse. I was worried about that, as I don’t like using my controller on my PC (SteelSeries 3GC).
I haven’t yet attempted the GTA Online portion yet. Is that just free-form mayhem, or is there a story behind it?
Oh, and my social club ID is Krondys (my Steam ID is also Krondys).
