I’m asking this as a NON-gamer. If you feel inclined to reply to this to reply to this thread please keep in mind that I know nothing of all things video games.

My son wants to download this game called GTA New, New York. In my son’s own words, it’s a Futurama version of GTA. My problem is that anytime I see “Free Download” on the Internet, I get nervous. I’m left convinced that the so called free download is chalk full of viruses.

Can anyone tell me if this is safe or not?

Also, my son does have a PS3. I’d rather he play it on that but he tells me this is not possible. He says it can only be played on the PC. Is this true? (I’m only asking as my son is mildly autistic. He doesn’t always understand things completely.)

It appears to be a mod for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

Game modifications are usually created by other fans of the game. They can be a really great way to extend the life of a game. Mods pretty much exist only for PC games, and never for console versions, so I don’t think he’s yanking your chain.

I can’t speak for the particular file he wants to download, but make sure you run an updated virus detection program on it before you do anything with the file that’s been downloaded.

As Phatlewt mentioned this is a mod for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. This means you need to already own GTA:Vice City. And, going by the description of GTA:New New York you also need to already have the GTA:Liberty City. (GTA:Liberty City was a mod that allowed you to play in the original map. I loved having this for GTA: Vice City, because it meant you could have motorcycles in LC!)

So, if you already own the game, and you have the needed mod installed you should be good to go.
If a website is claiming you can simply download something and that will give you everything you need, I would be wary of that.

I have never used this particular mod, so I have no idea how well it works. Just wanted to make sure you owned the original game. Otherwise, you both might be headed for disappointment.

Does it have to be the original game for PC? Or would the original game for PS3 work?
