GT's vacation: a confessional and challenging MMP

holds up hand

I confess to holiday sluggishness too. I’m terrible if I’m at home for a few days, I have to write a list of everything I want to do and then work through it, otherwise I’d slug on the sofa all weekend watching naff television.

Today was a public holiday so no work for me - a bit of slugging watching fillums, but I did get a bit productive. I did some laundry, sorted through some bags of stuff for the charity shop, and baked a loaf of spicy bread and a ginger/apricot loaf. They’re both for Fat Club 'cos we’re having a taster session tomorrow night where everyone’s supposed to bring something good. I have no idea how good these things will be, I’ve never made either of them before and the ginger/apricot loaf is a strange recipe. Oh well, we’ll just have to see how well they go down with the Fatties.

gt - I like the idea of chores and excursions as rewards, although I’m too lazy to plan properly…

ETA - the Scots are full of good ideas when it comes to foxing the tourists. I give you the little town of Milngavie. How many of you would pronounce it “Mun-Guy”?

Spaz, dear, you are not well. I laughed quite loudly at the Sports Gynecology remark.

Awwww, Pie, hope things get better quickly. More hugs.

Thanks all for your suggestions. I’ll add them to my list tonight…well, the ones that I’m adding. :stuck_out_tongue: Both breakfast selections sound yummy. Gotta add buttermilk to the grocery list. I think I have buckwheat pancake mix in the fridge…I’ll need to think about whether I use that or go out to get buckwheat flour when I go to Whole Foods. And I haven’t had French Toast in ages. I might even be adventurous and make FCM’s baked one… Mmmmmmmm, breakfast.

howye, I’ve meant to go to Blendon Woods for ages. I’m a Metroparks volunteer, so you’d think I’d actually visit more of them, but no…I pretty much stick to the one I volunteer at.

Just finished lunch and need to go back outside and finish off a few gardening tasks. I’ve been digging up a bunch of plants that need to move and am feeling all accomplished. Also pruned the crabapples some. I’ve got just a bit more to go before I stop to run some errands, then it’ll be time to do my extra-fun thing for today. Haven’t decided yet what that is, of course.

Back go getting stuff done in the garden. Yay!!!

GT

ARGH! They’re building out some new offices in our wing. This apparently involves as much noise as possible. We’re all well down the path towards noise-induced insanity.

They couldn’t have done this on a weekend… why?

Since I don’t know Columbus at all, I guess my orders are simple - have yourself a proper ice cream cone and take a leisurely walk as you eat it.

Hell, that’s how I plan on spending most of my vacation this week - well, that and laundry, various household chores I’ve been putting off, training for my 60K walk (which is in less than 2 weeks… eeep!), and catching up on some sewing projects.

{{Pie and Nava}}

On that note, I’ve slugged around a fair bit today and should really get something done (other than laundry, that is, as I somehow managed to take care of whilst lounging about in a state of utter laziness)

Wow - a lull!

It’s Monday, I’m tired, and I’m jealous of anyone who gets to take vacations, but I’ll pout quietly. SIL woke up with a stiff neck - was I contagious?? **FCD ** started his new job. Daughter found out her favorite teacher from 8th grade is still teaching there, and he remembered her! They’re both enroute home now.

I was going to work in the basement, but I’m just going to do laundry. And go to bed early. That’s as close as I’ll get to a vacation this year… <insert pathetic sad sigh>

Do you feel sorry for me?? Even a little??

Aw, you poor thing! Here, come sit over here. Can I get you anything? A cup of tea? Some dark chocolate? Here’s the remote. :: tucks a throw blankie around her legs:: I’ll go throw that load of clothes in the machine.

Feel better?

Good afternoon! Nice OP gt, I think you ought to do a couple of your chore projects and then spend the rest of your vacation doing what you like to do. I have no suggestions with regard to what might be fun to do, I was in Ohio once, stayed in Mentor-on-the-Lake in the dead of winter. The most fun I had was just cruising the countryside. I hope that you come up with some things that are fun.

So it’s Monday again, it seems that I make a post on Monday and while I try to read, I am never able to stay caught up. However, today is the first day of school, and I am seriously doing the Happy Dance! Hopefully I will be able to resume my routine and have time to post more frequently.

Hey smartie, are you still being forced to listen to goat roper tunes? I think of you everytime I hear G with an O, O with a D, T with an I, M with an E… :stuck_out_tongue: yeah, I like country music! Not only country, but I do like it. On a more serious note, I am sorry for your loss of Space Dawg, she was beautiful, and from what you have said, she loved much, and was much loved in return.

Nava all my best with everything going on in your life. You always seem to have your hands full with your family, I can empathize with you there.

pie I understand a lot of what you have been going through, empathy from me regarding the mental health stuff. After a lifetime of beeing a wingnut I have finally found the right combination of meds which help keep me off the roller coaster. My hope for you is that you find the same relief, in the meantime please accept this virtual bouquet of irises.

I am so pleased that I am not the only person experiencing autumn. li li your son is beautiful, and I have relived my children’s reluctance to adapt to a sleeping pattern. It’s frustrating and it’s never fun to be sleep deprived on top of the body’s effort to provide food for the young 'un. This will pass, and once he’s a teenager your problem will then be to wake him up!

Never a dull moment in your life, huh BBBobio? Glad that you didn’t have to find a corpse, but the filthiness of some people is astounding. Also yay on getting the patient off to the hospital without much trouble, and I also am dumbfounded that your encounter with Bambi caused little to no damage. Our deer are Sitka Blacktail, and are a small deer, yet when they play chicken with traffic and lose they generally leave a good dent. btw, regarding eating venison vrs your weight surgury, does it make a difference if the meat is cooked to falling apart tenderness, or how about ground into burger meat?

pugs I am so happy for you/jealous about your trip! I want to go to Europe so badly, I hope that your trip is fabulous and everything you ever hoped for.

Life here has been full of a lot of stress, some pain (I tweaked my back, and my local PA is ultra conservative when it comes to pain meds) so I have had to face a couple of hard facts, one being that I am going to be going back on the fly to Anchorage once a month to see a pain specialist, also the carpal tunnel syndrome in my right wrist has begun to truly distort my wrist, and I am gonna have to bite the bullet and have the flipping surgery done. I have put off several surgeries for too long, and age is beginning to rear it’s ugly head and show me just how badly things could become. Yippee skippee. I hate hate hate surgery. Blech!

In Kodiak news, the bears have been out in force. The fish runs have been late and sparse, and the berries are only now beginning to ripen. There was an incident close by where a young sow (2-3 years) was doing her best to chew her way through a doggy door, and it was not her first offense, and so she was shot. Very sad, but when the bears become that bold it becomes dangerous. A friend had his garbage can taken by a bear sometime Saturday night. In the morning all that was left was the lid and a chewed up bottle of rug shampoo. I went berry picking with my friend Cat, she was picking most of the berries and I was on bear watch. At one stop, just a half block from a place I lived in previously, she wasn’t 10’ off the sidewalk and saw fresh bear scat. She kept picking, but when she came back she said that there were a couple of bedding down spots back there. I could relate more stories, but the bears have been thick this summer, and this post is already getting too long.

So, here is my MMP, hopefully I will be around more frequently now that the kids are in school and summer is on the wane. Happy Monday all! Hugs, yays, boos, etc. to any who are in need.

Ta!

On preview, gentle {{{FCM}}} and I also have a nice stash of dark chocolate, shall I shove some in the cd drive for ya? Take it easy, it sounds as if you have been overdoing things a bit.

Rebo, you’re my bestest friend forever and ever! You too, kai! Chocolate is decidedly good for what ails me.

I managed to throw together some grub for the fambly, and they’re snarfing it down. I’m still digesting the mega-burger my boss made - urp!

Tonight, I’ll be helping **FCD ** do the paperwork so he can get his clearance. Till it comes thru, he’ll need to be escorted everywhere, which is no fun. We’ll be driving in separately for a few days yet, but his commute is still an hour shorter each way, so yay!

We did find out that his payday is the same as mine. However, they’re paid 2 weeks in arrears, so his first check won’t be till Sep 19. He’s got 2 left from the last job (also paid in arrears) so with luck, we won’t have to dip into savings, which is a relief.

Poor daughter - the school system pays once a month on the last day of the month - ick!! **FCD ** had a monthly payday once - I hated it - such a pain to budget for that!

First load of laundry is almost done. rah. I may only do one today - spread the fun out over the week…

Thanks, kai, and everyone else too.

What’s also not helping is that we are dead dead dead right now. I have NO lunches tomorrow but I’ve still got major bills due by the end of the month. I don’t know what’s going to happen.

I was going to go downstairs and work on my totebag for awhile, but my head is hurting so I’m just sitting here doing nothing now.

Yays, boos, hugs, trouts… distributed as needed. I read but I have no comprehension skills this evenin’. I’s tahred. It keeps rainin’ and stormin’ off and on. There seems to be yet another line of storms on the way.

Oh and I won the sex feud.

Forage time.

My stomach is about the size of my fist, so the volume is slightly larger than a Quarter Pounder.

Stringy meat will plug up the outlet, wich creates a condition known as the foamies; what goes down must come up. It’s like a cat horking, actually.

Beef brisket is absolutely out, white poultry can be done under the right circumstances. Most game is stringier than brisket so I pass altogether.

I eat a lot of ground meat, and things I can roast very slowly as a result. Roast pork, dark poultry, tender beef steaks, etc are my meats of choice.

No no no! We love hearing more about what life is like in Alaska! And if there’s anyone here who doesn’t, well then they can just take a long walk of a short… I mean they can just skip reading the posts that they don’t want to read. I really like hearing about places that are very different from where I live, not just from you, but from **Dotty **and Special1 and Nava and… well, I’m drawing a blank on other Mumpers with exotic (to me) locales, but I really do like reading all of your posts.

I wanna go home, but one of the other groups *might *still need stuff from me. Bleh.

I have a headache at the back of my head behind my ears. I thought perhaps to blame it on the new headphones, so midday I put them away and took out the earbuds again (which I hate - they make my ears hurt) By quit-o’clock, the headache was twice as bad. I see my doc this week, I am going to ask him if I can get tested for cluster headaches.

Pie - please check your PMs (but give me a few minutes to send it)

VBob - I have no words to describe the respect and admiration I have for you and your co-FD folk.

That’s all. As soon as the viceden starts to kick in, I’m going to sleep. I’m not even going to have a Mike’s tonght.
Well, maybe I will.

:: Cheers :: The dinner fairy is making stir-fry.

I wanna dinner fairy!!! But I’m thinking pasta with fresh tomato sauce is it, since I have tomatoes literally falling off the plants. Back with tales of the rest of my day after I’ve cooked.

GT

Hi all!

{{{Pie}}}

Mooom- I’ll do the next load of laundry- you don’t mind if everything comes out pink?

First day of classes- lecture and a long lab. I talked and moved nonstop from 9:30 to 2. After a summer of sluggy that was tough! I came home and fell asleep!

But Student Activities were making free smoothies for students and faculty so YUM!

Plus we are still renovating our offices, so we’re all working out of boxes. Tra-la-la so the semester begins!

Did have a really nice day, though- lots of conversations with friends I haven’t seen all summer and at least in this class, a really good group of students.

We’ll see how tomorrow’s class goes! Hope they’re good too!

The frozen pizza fairy is making our dinner–because I’m the Best Mom in the World[sup]TM[/sup].

Work was really nice–even with both annoying coworkers there–neither of them were annoying. I think they might be lulling me into thinking that they’re not annoying, but I’m not falling for that old trick.
I almost started to cry today at work when I realized that me baby is going to college. No matter what, she won’t be my baby anymore (I mean how you can’t go home again)–it’s the start of an end to an era in my life. I’m  and :frowning: .
Gorgeous, hand-picked, glorious day out there–sunny, slight breeze, temperate, low humidity. I was thrilled to get out even half hour early, just to enjoy it. We shall be dining (on our frozen pizza–cooked, smart asses!) on the back deck. Casual attire. No need to RSVP, just show up.

I am very jealous of your tomatoes. Good fresh tomatoes here are quite expensive, and since I live in a basement apt., I have no where that I can grow them. :frowning: Oh, and I can’t even go to the Farmer’s Market because it’s only on Wednesday and closes at 6.

Am eating minestrone, and we went and got ice cream earlier, because it’s nearly the end of summer, and I need lots of ice cream, dammit.

Thanks for the information BBBobio. I have a lot of questions, as I am beginning the process of having wls, and I know that it is a huge life change. To begin with I need to go on a modified Atkins diet, which I hope means I get to eat some veggies as well. I also need to find out if there is a water aerobics class going on, as I need to do that 3x a week, all documented by my doctor for 6 months before the doc will operate. I know that you shared your experience in the MMP, but that was before I came into the group, do you (or anyone else) have links to what you experienced?

My doc here on The Rock is excited that I have caved and accepted that my stupid carpal tunnel is not going to go away on it’s own, so I may be having that surgery this month as well…I don’t like surgery, :frowning: have I mentioned that? :stuck_out_tongue:

taxi thanks for the encouragement to share my stories. I have 3 or 4 from this summer I need to write down, and I will share them, some including photos. Maybe I can lure beebs back, he always seemed to enjoy my stories.

Okay, I gotta get some laundry done, it’s Alice in Laundryland again for me, at least it’s a chore I don’t mind doing.

Ta!
