Yes and yes.
This is Walking in Memphis, by Marc Cohn.
It a B. B. Song, but I’m ashamed to admit I only know it from the “B.B. King Medley” off “Best of Duane Allman.” The words are “Let you live in my penthouse/you called it a shack/gave you seven children/now you want to give 'em back”
Off to google now…
“You sniveling, overpriveleged white bread punk. You might think you’ve got some kind of connection with poorer people, but you don’t know how good you’ve got it. Some time in a third world country would give you a little perspective on your cushy life.”
It’s called How Blue Can You Get. Great tune.
It was “How Blue Can You Get” by B. B. King. And the album was Duane Allman, An Anthology.
Hey! You talkin’ to me??
Sorry… I get a little worked up when people don’t know BB King songs.
Right song, wrong artist. It’s actually by the Beach Boys. The lyrics and title were changed when the song was released on the album to “I Know There’s An Answer”.
Going old school for this one…
Financially embarassed, in the town called Red Stick, and preparing to travel by rail, my spirits as diminished as the colors of my denim trousers…
“Red Stick” was the giveaway. Janis Joplin, “Me & Bobby McGee”
Cool - I had no idea that was a Beach Boys song.
Well pfui. Took two minutes for that one. Well done. Try another…
Pay attention, youngsters, to a saga handed down from the ages, regarding an elevated empire, and those dwelling in less lofty terrain…
One Tin Soldier, by Coven
OK, I suck at this game.
No, no, we’re having fun! Here’s one for you:
She descends from canary-colored heights
On a heavily shadowed and even topography she is borne
By a foal she refers to as Untamed Flame
With a tornado in close proximity
Some leftovers from the last time I did this in my LJ:
All of them are opening lines.
No you don’t. It wouldn’t be any fun if they were all stumpers.
I know that one. Makes me think of my first love, years ago.
Wildfire
When you arise at daybreak and the sunshine is painful
When you first set feet on floor
You pound the pavement searching,
looking for some inexpensive eye coverings
