Guest MMP II: A story, moral optional

We’re having pokechops for dinner tonight. I should prolly marinate them, or I might just do shake-n-bake.

My sweetie is all set up for his surgicals on Thurs. I met his surgeon and I really like him. He answered all our questions frankly, and I feel a lot better about the procedure now. It looks as if it won’t be nearly as debilitating as I’d expected, so that’s good. So, he checks in at the hospital at 11:30 on Thurs, and I’m guessing I’ll be there till at least 9 or 10 PM by the time he gets settled in his room for the night.

The inlaws are on their way - somewhere in North Caroline, I’m guessing. We don’t expect them here before 9 tonight.

Wanna see a nice, full rack?? We brought all our wood from the garage to the new rack in the basement. Check out all the pics if you want to see what we’ve been doing in ManLand the last few weeks.

And that’s all I’ve got to add. Thanks to all for the kind words. The story came to me yesterday, based loosely on something I wrote in (believe it or not) French class in my sophomore year of high school. So while Bunny and Paul (Henry) weren’t French (in which case they’d be Lapin and Paul (Henri) ) their roots are somewhat French. Anyway, I’m glad I don’t have to do this every week. I don’t know how Rue manages to be so creative!

PS - I got a short note from Rue this weekend. He and his are doing fine, but he didn’t offer a hint about when he’ll rejoin our party. So we’ll all just wait and see.

I used to love the shake-n-bake for pokechops but it wasn’t good the last couple of times I tried it so I figured they had changed the ingredients somehow. I just got a fantabulous idea for mine, though. I tried some Marie’s Creamy Caesar Dressing on chicken last week and it was way nummy. Probably putting it on the pokechops would be truly decadent. Very tempting, though.

Isn’t it time for rue to poke his head into the thread?

swampy, you were so cheerful this mawnin I was sure you had snuggled with ACBG this weekend somehow. I didn’t realize it was baindreadedniss.

gotty, (that’s your new nickname gotpasswords) do you actually use the soap dispenser? My new fawcet came with one but I opted out cause I just didn’t see myself squirting soap into the plastic container and then screwing it in under the sink.

I’ve been catching up on all the e-mail & voice mail from the last two weeks and need to unwind.

beckwall, I think Mr beckwall needs to add a blooper/outtake reel to the end of his wedding video.

Draelin, those purry footwarmers are nice, but unreliable in my experience. Temperature control is the biggest problem - how to turn them on when it’s -30ºC and turn them off at +30ºC. Mine are very erratic in this critical respect.

On the culinary front, I made Pulled Pork this weekend. I’ve tried it a few times at BBQ cookoff contests (we’re not entirely uncivilized here in the Great White North), and it’s been mentioned here a few times, so I decided to try it myself. found a recipe on the net that didn’t require a smoker and had at it. Mrs B mentioned a few times during the cooking process that it sure smelled good. When I served it up, she took a mouthful and got a strange expression on her face. I thought “Oh, shit, she doesn’t like it” - I experiment a lot with new dishes, and while we share a lot of tastes, sometimes I will come up with something new that I think is yummy but she hates (bison burgers and chocolate chile come to mind). “Oh my god,” she said, “Is this ever good!” It sure was! We had it again on Sunday, and I brought some for lunch today, and there’s lots left over for future meals. The recipe is going into the keeper file.

We’re actually not using the built-in soap thing because the sink doesn’t have enough holes. But, we do have a soap squirter in roughly the position a built-in one would be. I’ve got the built-in thing in storage as we’re planning to re-do the kitchen counters (beige ceramic tile…ugh!) sooner than later, and a new sink will be part of the job as the current one is a somewhat scuffed up white porcelain thing that absolutely does not match anything else in the kitchen except for a Corning Ware casserole pan.

Dang gotty (puggy hath decreed it so it must be) that’s an awful big place to sweep up. Don’t blame ya for gettin’ the tourists on outta there. Faire? Looks like it should be pronounced fay-ree. Oh and og forbid the sink not match the kitchen! Ok, so my countertops are green and the sink is stainless steel. It still looks aight. I still want to redo the kitchen, I just don’t know what I want exzackly.

ACBG will be over about sixish, pizza in hand. Ok, in box cause he might get tired of holdin’ it in his hand all the way over here even though it’s one of them ubake kinds. We likes those. They put it together at the pizza place and then when ya get home you bake it so it’s all hot and gooey right outta the oven. MMMMMMM! I made a salad to go with it. Ok, I dumped some salad out of the bag. Still I had to open the bag, find a bowl and dump the salad in the bowl, so it was work. It counts. He’s all excited about gettin’ meatloaf for supper tomorrow. He hath decreed he will not work late cause of the meatloaf. Think I’ll do some smashed taters and some lima beans and make some baby cornbread muffins. If the mood strikes tomorrow evening there might even be peach cobbler. Can y’all tell I’m hungry?

Is extra virgin olive oil made from extremely unfucked olives?

Hmm. I really love olives. But enough to have relations with them?

:: ponders ::

Inlaws are off I-95, so they’re about 55 or so miles from us. They’re gonna stop for some chow, and I expect they’ll be here a bit after 9. The house is clean, and as soon as I hop into the shower, I’ll be clean, too.

It was a busy, busy day, and I’m ready for a snooze.

Tell FCDad he’s in my thoughts and prayers…

While they’re working on his neck, are you going have them install bolts for Halloween?

Bobbio, you are just not right!!! (Which is why we luuurves ya, of course.)

Lovely day. Worked on one thing all day. And tomorrow there’s a little more. And then I hope to never see it again. How do I get stuck with this stuff? (It’s really only partly my responsibility, but it’s really important for it to be done right…) I think my eyes are only just now starting to uncross.

Dinner was pretty exciting: reheated pasta. Chocolate ice cream. I suppose I should have some fruit or vegetable eventually.

Hope you’re feeling better Draelin; I hate bronchitis. But you have to feel better because we’ll need detailed reports about Hell’s Wedding and it just won’t be the same if you’re not well.

Gotta go throw in the next load of laundry. (No shanghaiing or sweeping here, although I do need to call Mom.)

GT

You never call. You never write… :frowning:

Here I am, late to the party. I started jury duty today. I’ve been selected as a juror for a trial and that’s all I get to say until it’s over. It was a long day.

FCM, great job on the Guest MMP. See, I’m just not creative enough, off the cuff anyway, to write anything really interesting. Sending best wishes to FCD in hopes all goes well with the surgery.

I think I’m going to make tater tot casserole tonight. It’s easy and I have the ingredients on hand. Plus, I just don’t have a lot of energy.

I’m a little PO’d at my husband’s company. The first week of August we received a letter from corporate congratulating him on driving one million safe miles and informing him that he would be receiving his big bonus. In addition, we were to look for mail the next few weeks giving more information. Well, nothing ever came so the husband called corporate today to find out what the deal was. Turns out the company FUCKED up (sorry, I’m irate), and he won’t receive the bonus for another six or seven months. In the meantime (stupid us), we bought a new TV with thoughts of paying most of it off with the bonus, plus paying a couple of other bills. I think I’m more irate with myself for counting chickens before they’re hatched, but all the same the company screwed up. They’re constantly screwing up his pay, but they’re good about fixing it when the error is discovered. However, screw-ups with pay shouldn’t be the norm, they should be rarity. This is a big company too, not some rinky-dink outfit. Ah well, nothing we can do but suck it up. Still, I’m pissed.

Well, I better get going on the dinner.

MMP to the second page in less than a day - woo!!!

Anyway, thought I’d actually post to MMP on Monday. Don’t have much to say though. I did have pokechops tonight, leftover from last night’s cooking. I also cooked up balsamic succotash tonight to go with it - yummy.

Had a quiet weekend, which is always nice. Did some baking - homemade bread & cookies - both of which came out nicely.

Today was entirely quiet at work - hope tomorrow will be slightly more lively.

Susan

Day-am FCM, I think I’ll go set fire to my garage now. Good luck to FCD on Thurs. Nice OP too.

Draelin, are you gonna taker this opportunity to quit smoking?

It was a quiet weekend at Chez Bumba. I worked Saturday, as usual. Yesterday I made a little slotted thingie to hold rubber stamps, then we went shopping for a while, then I put a couple of coats of verathane on my new slotty thingie. A pretty lazy day all around. Oh, and in keeping with MMP tradition, last night we had grilled salmon with roasted butternut squash and a green salad. Num!
Tonight is some kinda chicken with corn on the cob and something else. I got some edamame(sp?) at TJs on the way home today, so maybe I’ll cook those, I’ve never done them before.

I went into town today and played contract programmer for 5 hours. Ka-ching!

I wanna make meatloaf with ground pork sometime, anybody ever done that?

Books, I lurve pulled pork, what recipe did you use?

How long are you on jury duty Taters?

I feel like I should have a closing sentence here, but I got nuttin.

I just remembered this, in honor of our guest story teller: Bug the Frog
Have fun (my high score today was 450)

Bobbio, that’s exactly what differentiates olive oil from extra virgin. I’d settle for virgin… I don’t know where the regular has been!

Today at lunch, our cafeteria had the best thing ever. It had sweet potatoes and pecans and brown sugar, and I don’t know what else. It was amazing.

The gauchos in that picture aren’t the evil gauchos from the last fad. These, hmmm… gauchos nuevos (?) are much less poofy. Thinking back on fashion fads, I think poofiness is a warning sign for me, much like a skunk’s stripes. Speaking of which, do a skunk’s stripes qualify as slimmingly vertical, or wideningly horizontal?

Swampy, grass is eternal. Lawns, like all trees, are green year-round, so you’ve got a long wait. Now 'scuse me, I need to get my really heavy winter flip-flops out of storage.

Which reminds me; what a horrid, horrid day. The worst is that the SDMB is blocked at work again and I don’t know if I’ll be able to find a way around it this time. Do they not realize this is the only fun I have at work and it’s kept me from snapping the head off more than one student? It’s not simply entertainment, it’s a safety measure people! Just reading the MMP here at home has improved my mood immensely. FCM done good.

The rest of the day was just the same old teacher stuff that is really starting to grind me down. Attitude adjustment time-- at least I still have a job. My chair is missing only one of it’s five wheels, and my custodian is the best I’ve been assigned, ever.

No way, Bumba! Edamame was what I had for lunch and corn-on-the-cob is on-the-menu for dinner. You should also be aware that I just now noticed I have been wearing my gym pants backwards for the last couple of hours. I don’t know why you specifically need to know this Bumba, but it seems a safe move none-the-less.

Bookeeper, recipe please!

I’ve got to go finish Thud now. I’m going to marry Vimes as soon as I can figure out a way around the ‘Not Real’ bit.

Sorry. Bookkeeper. I love pulled pork. New recipes are always welcome.

You better figure a way around the whole ‘Lady Sybil’ thing too! (I assume we are talking about the same Vimes).

I got in to work early today. Three people looked puzzled and asked why i was there. That’s kinda depressing that i’m *known * for being late :frowning:
