Guest MMP II: A story, moral optional

The inlaws arrived safe and sound last night, with their Cairn terrorist. I can’t imagine how the DeDay family lives with 2 terriers and 2 little boys, but I have newfound admiration for Rue. Abby isn’t a bad dog, she’s just waaaaaaaay more energetic than our geriatric dog and laid-back cat. Poor old Bernie was lying on the floor, minding her own business, when Typhoon Abby pounced. It was hilarious to watch this little dynamo trying to provoke our old hairbag into rasslin’ or even responding, but Bernie wanted no part of such nonsense.

A little later in the evening, the cat was at my feet in the kneehole of the desk, and Abby decided she needed to get up close and personal. Mr. Cat hissed as I never heard him hiss before, and that set Abby into a yapping frenzy. My MIL eventually gathered up li’l Miss Hyper and the cat escaped, I think to our bedroom, but I’m not sure. I do know I woke up with him purring away against my leg.

So as is usual for me, I am up while the rest of the household sleeps. The dogs have been outside to water the yard  and both have had a treat. Bernie is crashed on the floor and Abby is exploring. No idea where the cat is hiding.

It’s gonna be an interesting few days.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! I am a happy bear! You may discuss amongst yourselves the reason(s) for my ungrumpiness/ungrouchiness. You should be able to figure it out.

I formed a meatloaf already this morning. Ok, two meatloafs (meatloaves?) cause the recipe makes two, which is nice cause one is all wrapped up and in the freezer for later purposes and one is all covered up in the refrigerdaireator waitin’ to be cooked for tonight’s supper. s_f I don’t know what balsmaic succotash is but I’m havin’ regular succotash for supper tonight along with meatloaf and mac and cheese. I was gonna do smashed taters (but not our **
Taters**, she can get smashed on her own. HAH!) but somebody gave me the sad puppy dog eyes look and pleaded for some mac and cheese, so it shall be. What the heck, I am nice on the rare occasion. I even grated the cheese this morning. I feel so efficient!

FCM tell FCD he’s in my thoughts and prayers.

Taters maybe you can muse outloud about how wonderful it would be to bring back public guillotining. You could mention packing a picnic lunch and bringing the family along for an outing. If you gotta sit on jury all week, least you can do is entertain yourself.

Extra virgin olives are olives that God didn’t get pregnant. That’s the way I figure it. If God can get somebody pregnant yet she remains a virgin, I figure a virgin God didn’t get pregnant is extra virgin. Is that thunder I hear rumblin’ in the distance?

-swampbear (happy and probably gonna get struck by lightning)

Swampy got laaaaiiiiid… Swampy got laaaaiiiiid…

Are you sure you don’t think I’m all giddy from the fumes from chopping bell pepper and onion at six a.m.? :stuck_out_tongue:

You are just way too transparent for us to fall for that old chestnut, Mr. Bear.

I caved and just broiled my pokechops last night and had them with some nice dirtballs. (figure it out) I’m still trying to get rid of the pesky five pounds I’ve gained since the quitting of the smoking.

fcm, I get the up before dawn to potty the dogs duty too. It’s all good, though, cause it gives me time to putter around, drink coffee, enjoy the peace and quiet, etc. before other members of the household are awake. I’m definitely not a brilliant conversationalist in the AM.

Tonite’s dinner will be baked chicken and sweet taters, I’m thinkin.

Tupug

Puggy I was just sayin’ last night I needed to get some sweet taters. I have a meeting in Leesburg Thursday afternoon that will give me a chance to go by the farmer’s market there, so I put sweet taters on my list of stuff I want. They usually have good produce there. I got a hankerin’ for some baked sweet taters or a sweet tater pie. Sometimes I french fry em. MMMM… maybe some candied sweet taters or a sweet tater souffle… Dang! Now I want sweet taters and poke chops.

I have decided that I do not care whether or not I get anything done at work today. Of course, I do have to get some stuff done, I just don’t care. I definitely have slacker mode on today.

I honestly think that the purpose of the MMP has morphed into making us all cook the same thing. To what end, I am not sure - but I bet it’s something insidious.

I wish I could feel like I didn’t have to do anything. It would be nice, because it’s a quiet time for me right now. Should heat up within the next day or so, but for now, it’s a little too quiet for comfort. Especially since my boss’ boss’ office is right behind my cube.

bumba, there is a recipe in last month’s Vegetarian Times calling for edamame. I’ve never had it but the recipe looked very good. Please report back on how yours comes out.

Who mentioned making pulled pork for the first time? I keep hearing women at work here talk about making it in the crock pot; cook it all day and then rake it apart with a fork when you’re done. When I serve pulled pork barbecue, I get it from a place here in town. It’s pretty authentic Western Kentucky barbecue, which is not like Texas barbecue. I think it’s similar to what they do in North Carolina. Anyway, me the 10-year vegetarian, is now eating it because of Chet Adkins. No–Adkins diet. Or South Beach. Or The Zone. I don’t know. I just know hubby is doing low carb and I desperately want to get rid of this caboose I’m still carrying lo this entire YEAR now since the birth of the youngster. So, no pasta and rice for me, it’s mean-meat-meat all the time. Gah. I can’t wait to go back to being a vegetarian!

End rant.

We have been in our new house exactly one year! And it’s finally somehwhat spiffy looking, despite the fact that we have yet to put any art on the walls. Too big a commitment. We do have nice new furniture in several rooms, so we’re getting around to it. There is one room that has something hanging–one of the kids’ bathrooms. A perfectly charming beach scene…of doggies laying on their beach towels, sunning themselves! It’s so adorable. Actually the whole bathroom rocks, with this beach theme. There is a little hammock that holds the soap, and a ‘woody wagon’ dispenser for either soap or lotion. Plus a little unbrella toothbrush holder. Cute, cute cute. Our latest furniture purchase arrived last week, and dear husband set it up. It’s a lovely cherry computer desk for the living room, which doens’t look a thing like a desk! It has shelves above, and a large shelf for the monitor, and the keyboard is sequestered behind a drop-down drawer, which slides out. Beneath it are cabinets for the CPU, and everything is wired together so you just push centrally located buttons to turn off the monitor, etc. Oh! Also we got a cool wireless mouse for the laptop. It pans web pages for you. And has just a thumb-drive looking thingie stuck in the USB port to run it. No big old annoying mousie looking thing sitting on the desk to run it! (Which always seemed to defeat the purpose, sort of.)

swampy, it being October and all, has the swamp-pool been closed for the summer?

Congratulations to donkey/bear and his incomprehensible calculus thread for making THREADSPOTTING. I know nothing of calculus, and it was amusing to see [sqrt] in there. hee hee.

FCM prayers here too for your husband and his surgery!

And in keeping with the theme, I hearby announce that tonight Chez Cherry will consume tacos for dinner. It is Tuesday. The children love it when it’s Taco Tuesday, even though I hate coming home after working all day and chopping things up. But it’s eaiser than you might think. We mainly have refried black beans (try them: YUM), cheese, canned corn, salsa and fresh tomato on our tacos. Since gaining my carnivore husband, I sometimes have to brown some ground beef, too, and oh yeah I have to make rice for the children. So it’s a lot of work for something that doesn’t seem like it should be a lot of work.

Someone put leftover pie in our secretary’s office. I just ate a big glob of merangue right off my finger. Good times.

EC I don’t close the pool up. It’s actually open all year round. Course that means I have to clean it all year long but still that’s easier than covering it up and dealing with the uncovering and getting it ready in the Spring. Specially round here where there is no ice and snow and stuff. It only needs to run for a few hours a day in Winter. I actually got in it for a while Saturday after doin’ yard work cause it’s warm enough here even now. I literally get almost nine months use out of the pool.

donkeybear made threadspotting? I looked at the thread when it first opened and said, “Oh, math. That’s hard.”

I think I’m gonna make fried pokechops for Sunday supper. With other stuff. Probably sweet taters. Plus some veggies. Maybe some biscuits.

I’ve decided I’m gonna surprise ACBG with a peach cobbler tonight. Just to be nice. Ain’t I sweet!

Yes, we know. You already told us what youo got last night. Stop belaboring the point.

FCM I do have to say that that is one very nice rack. You should show it more often. And get well quick thoughts to FCD and Draelin.

And if youu can’t get Shanghai’d to India, once you’re there can you get Bombay’d?

We have fried shrimpies last night. De-shelled them, de-veined them, breaded (in a beer mix), and served them up… Served with stir-fried squash, zuccs, and carrots. Too bad the penne pasta had too much parmesan cheese. Otherwise, it would have been a perfect dinner.

I made threadspotting? Wow, I did. Go me.

After viewing ACYG’s myspace, I’ve decided that dating probably isn’t going to work. We’re going to get together tonight, and I’ll see if my opinion changes. I expect to come home a happy bear.

:dubious:

You can never have too much garlic or parmesan cheese with Eyetalian food…

So splain the sqrt thing to me, a poor English/political science major.

I’m going to make eclairs today. I’m have dinner guests tomorrow, so I thought I do them early. I hope there are some left for the guests. I’ll probably have to make them tomorrow too.
Dinner will be lasagna and salad. Maybe garlic bread. Any other suggestions?

Our plan is leaning toward seamless Corian, even if they only seem to make the sinks in white or tan. It would be such a nice change after this fricken-fracken ceramic tile and all of that nasty grout that actively crawls out of its grooves to cold-cock wandering stains and drags them in to set permanently.

Of course, we’ll probably take one look at the price, gulp, sigh, and go with the pre-fab laminate do-it-yourself slabs and a $40 stainless sink.

No kidding! First you’re up at 6 AM grating cheese for mac and cheese, now you’re thinking of making peach cobbler? You got laid like a fine carpet!

Speaking of carpet… One of our guild members lays ultra high-end carpet. Stuff that’s custom-made and wholesales for $225 a yard. For these jobs, he lets helpers lug the stuff into the room, then he shoos everyone out, locks the doors and does exceedingly careful work. He tells the tale of someone with too much money that hired him to install $20,000 worth of carpet and decided it didn’t go well with the rest of the bathroom. Rather than wait 6 months for a different carpet to be made, they spent $30,000 to re-do the tile.

We’re going to have rotisserie chicken and corn on the cob and something green - green beans or limas maybe. Tomorrow will be pot roast. That’s as far as I’ve planned.

Someone has been whining how he needs pie to build up his strength for surgery. He needs to realize that as a mom, I have a high tolerance for whining.

You would think so, but that’s not always the case.

Tonight will probably be Mac & cheese from a box. On Tuesdays we have the girls cook for us, since the GF gets home about 7 pm, and I get home anywhere between 5:30 and 7 myself. I may not be here tomorrow if they try to make anything more complicated than that.

sqrt means “square root” in arcane computer algebra system lingo.

I will not be having a date with ACYG tonight, it looks like. He sent me a text message and said that something had come up and he wouldn’t be able to make it. That’s unfortunate. There was a clause stating that there may be a change in plans, though, so I’m optimistic.

At this point, I’d accept being laid like a rug, as much as I’m sure that being laid like a fine carpet would be entertaining. Especially because you always have the big, burly men laying carpet. Even little schwächleins can lay rugs.

Good news from **KeithT **(since I can’t seem to get him to stop in here regularly to post). He had a phone interview today with a company located near where I live and they liked him enough to offer an interview here in November. So they’re flying him out (yay! Extra visit that we don’t have to pay for!) and he’ll have the interview and we’ll get to see each other for a little while anyway. So yay!

I’m going to get new glasses tomorrow. I got my year-end bonus on Friday so I can actually afford to get new glasses! I don’t technically need them so I couldn’t justify buying them until I had some money burning a hole in my pocket.

I’ve got pork chops in my slow cooker right now. And I hadn’t even read about everyone else’s pork chops when I decided to make them. Scary how we all think alike!

Think I’ll test out this power. For lunch today I had…Curried Tofu Salad on/with Bran and Oat Sandwich bread (all homemade). Okay - now who wants tofu? Who wants homemade bread? Speak up - this is for science!

(Okay, so it’s not really for science…)
