Guest MMP: It's A Real Turkey!

I bought cranberries tonight, because the family had no plans to have cranberry sauce!

Oh, and to enhance everyone’s perception of my butchness, I offered to sew patches on my brother’s pants tonight.

Crap, that’s not butch.

cb, I think it would qualify as butch if you used baling twine as thread and a rusty nail as a needle, and you scratched your ass while sewing…

Or not.

It’s 6AM - I’ve been awake for a while, so I got up. I’ve fed the critters, re-started the fire (the embers were still glowing) and emptied the dishwasher. The rest of the household is still crashed, and I expect they will be for at least another hour. We’re leaving around 9 and going to the Inner Harbor so my kid can show her new BF around. If we’ve got time, we may drive through Fell’s Point before heading further north to my mom’s house. Dinner is at 2, but I want to get there before 1, preferably around noon.

No snow here overnight, despite all their dire predictions for a dusting. It appears it may have rained a wee bit, but the temp is in the low 40s, so it’s not frozen or anything. Suits me fine - since I’m the driver today, I’d rather not contend with slick roads.

Hope everyone enjoys in moderation (yeah, right…) and no one starts a food fight or anything. Use your indoor voices, and offer to help with the dishes. And remember, the tablecloth is not an appropriate substitute for a napkin. Mind your manners, dammit!!

donkeybear if you follow FCM’s suggestions plus crush a few empty beer cans on your head and belch, it will be butch. Or, you could just follow jayjay’s example and go rip a lock off of a door. Your folks probably wouldn’t appreciate that though.

What animal makes that sound?

MMPers eating Thanksgiving dinner!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYBODY!!!

Happy Thanksgiving all! I hope this day finds you healthy and happy.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RUE!

My appetizers are in the oven and soon we shall be going over the hill, through woods, over the bridge and through awful traffic to get to my sis’s house. I already made the sauce that accompanies the appetizers. Hopefully, they’re tasty. I’ve never made these before.

Oops there went the timer, time to take the munchies out.

Take care and be careful on the roads folks!

I made bacon and eggs and french toast for Brekkies for my sweetie and I, then Wifey(sweetie) and I made stuffing (no giblets innit, gout ya know. sniff) and just put the turkey in the oven. We’ve got sweet taters, (but not our tater. she’s sweet, but we ain’t gonna eat 'er.) and I’m not sure what else. Also we’ve got a Mrs. Smith’s boston creme pie for later. Hey, we’re all about tradition (NOT).

We’ll have a big trad T-day with the kids on Saturday.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING and HAPPY BIRTHDAY RUE!!!

Somehow I think that might be redundant.

It’s Rue’s birthday? I missed it!

Then Happy birthday, Rue!

Everyone in the house is asleep (well, duh, it’s still dark out) so I can be timely now. Happy B-Day, Rue, yet again! I think I’ve said it enough that I can miss the next few of your birthdays and still have a credit of wishes in my favor! Hope you have a birthdayrriffic day!

A belated HAPPY THANKSGIVING to everyone and above all:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RUE!!!
We had a nice, pretty laid back, Thanksgiving. Went to local best friend’s and helped with some of the side dishes while the turkey finished up. We snacked, sipped wine, and chatted while dinner was finishing up. Then we slowly ate dinner. I only made it through 1 plate, but boy was I stuffed! We had 2 kinds of potatoes, 2 kinds of stuffing, green beans, rice, sweet potatoes, green salad, cranberry sauce, rolls, and …turkey. Everything was yummy. Also, we had two desserts much later with coffee.

I’m off to work in a bit. It’ll be nice and quiet so I can get something actually done!

Hope everyone has a great Friday, whatever you’re doing today!

Shortly I will motivate myself to get all cleaned up and then I’m hittin’ the road to go see family for the weekend. Have a great bday Rue! Everybody else, have a great weekend.

We’re heading to Our Nation’s Capitol today. First, breakfast, then to Goddard Space Flight Center where FCD will show us the cool stuff he works with, then on the Metro to the Smithsonian to play tourist for a while.

Today’s high is supposed to be 36, and it’s gonna be windy.

Yeah, good day to play tourist…

Happy belated birthdays to whomevers birthdays I missed; Rue, chaotic and anyone else who ever had a birthday.

Thanksgiving was okay, went to my sister’s. She got my mom out of the ALF for a few hours but she seemed so tired. After we ate she got agitated that she had to go back to “work”. She seems to think she works at the ALF and will get in trouble whenever she leaves. I came home when my sister took my mom home. I had left work early and told them to call me if they got busy so I just went home and did some housework. Rearranged the kitchen a little and lit a candle which the kitten managed to jump up next to and singe his whiskers and eyebrows on while I wasn’t looking. In rearranging I ended up losing my plant safe zone and put my new orchid within cat reach and woke up this morning to find it chewed on. They didn’t chew on the rosemary tree, the lucky bamboo or the bonsai (which have previously been nibbled on) no they had to pick on the poor delicate pretty orchid. At least it must not be toxic since no one’s sick this morning. I had to put the poor thing in the garage for now until I find it a safer place. I can never have nice things!

Swampy… the singing… I am touched.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes folks! That’s why you’re all my pals, because you care.

What a great day to have a birthday! Happy Happy, Rue.

My feast came out great! Everybody ate a ton, and I sent them all home with leftovers. And we still have half a turkey left, and lots of yummy sides. (I just had a snack of broccoli wild rice casserole.) And I got 3 people to try hummus! I’ve recently discovered this wonderful dish.

I was so pooped. I’m taking today off. Hubby is out “saving” money. Heh. You couldn’t get me to go out on Black Friday to save my life. So I’m just hangin’ out - reading the Dope.

I hope everybody’s holiday was all that they hoped it would be!

I hope everyone enjoyed their day yesterday.

We ate waaaaay too much food yesterday, but had a good time and a lot of laughs.

Now, I need to clean furiously for tomorrow night’s big shindig. I’d love to just lay around and read a good book. The weather is just perfect for it…it’s rainy and dreary outside.
Other than the above, I got bupkus…I think I’m still too full to think properly.

Scored a 300 dollar leather jacket for 70 dollars, and then got a 10 dollar gift certificate to Kohl’s this morning. ::smug::

Had a slightly embarassing senior moment at work this morning. I showed up for a meeting my boss had put on my schedule, the four of us got settled around the table, and my boss asked me “What did you want to talk about?” “Me? I thought you called this meeting?”    Turned out that I had raised an obscure accounting issue a couple of weeks earlier while in her office, she had suggested we meet to discuss it further and I had promptly forgotten about it.

Snow yesterday, so I had to shovel about 4-6" out of the driveway last evening. However, the neighbours have their Christmas lights on, and everything looked very Christmas-y with the fresh snow and the coloured lights shining through the snow cover on their spruce tree in the best Hallmark fashion. -10°C when I got up this morning, and the forecast says -5° tonight, -2° tomorrow with more snow, and +14° by Wednesday (typical Ottawa weather). If I didn’t have to actually go anywhere, I could just let Nature’s Snow Removal™ take care of it  .

Bookgirl has been out of work for the past few months (probably for the best, her previous workplace seemed remarkably disfunctional, but she had been getting discouraged with the lack of success in her job search), but called yesterday to say that she had heard back from a company she had interviewed at last week, and they wanted her to start today. They mentioned that she had been the only person interviewed who had followed up with them afterwards, and that had been a factor in the decision to hire her. I think it was because she took my advice and wore her glasses, which make her look very efficient and professional.

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Rue!

It was just Wifey and I last night. The GirlChild and family went south to have Turkey Day with his Mom and family. It’s okay, 'cause she’s getting frail and we think they should spend as much time as they can with her. We’ll have a big T Day dinner with them tomorrow.
Anyway, Wifey had originally said she wanted to roast a chicken, but she brought home a small turkey the other day, so we had turkey and stuffing, green salad, and yams with brown sugar and pineapple. We woulda had marshmellows over but we discovered we were out last night and didn’t want to go to the store, although I ended up going to the store after dinner anyway to get a paper. We wanted to see what was in the Black Friday ads. Also rented War of the Worlds while I was oot and aboot. We had a Boston Creme pie for dessert and later a very nice bottle of wine with our movie.
This morning I wandered down to Bi-Mart to get a contact lens thingee and bout a $15.00 shredder for the shop and a $40.00 Magnavox VCR for the house. Both of the VCRs in our house have given up the ghost. And during the TV season too!

A leather jacket for $70.00 CB? Way cool! There’s no way I’d drive into Portland to shop on this day so if it isn’t on sale in our little town, I ain’t buying it.

You could have nice things Wile E, you chose to have kitties instead, I’m just sayin’

I’ve got the shop open today but it looks like a slow day. Black Friday just isn’t a day when people think about buying soap it seems.

Hope everybody has a wonderful weekend! Turkey sammichs…YUM!

OK…who let this slip off the front page? I’ve been awake for an hour even though I don’t have to get up for at least another hour… Hmmm…maybe I’ll go read some more Harry Potter 4. Started reading it before the movie came out, saw the movie, am slowly finishing the book again…
