Guest MMP: It's A Real Turkey!

That was a great post, FCM. Too bad Rue’s birthday isn’t on a Monday - that would have been a great OP.

I got nuttin’. I’m working on a multi-year bid for a Navy shipyard, but other than that I think today is going to be slow. But I’ve been wrong about this stuff before.

This is a strange illness. I feel okay (not tip-top, but okay) during the day, then I get home and I start to go downhill. Last night the fever and chills came back about 9 pm. So I watched the Daily Show and drank some Armangac, then read the first chapter of the new Harry Potter book and went to sleep. This morning I felt okay again, although I did feel a bit woozy when I had to climb a ladder and change the batteries in a smoke alarm near my daughter’s bedroom. Very odd.

I think that if it turned out that my ultimate purpose in life was to make a weekly post to an internet message board I’d be awfully depressed.

Thanks everyone for the info on Minnesota. I’ll let y’all know if I end up going there. It’ll be a while. **KeithT **doesn’t graduate until May so at the earliest it’d be next summer before he/we go there.

Happy early birthday, Rue!

I’ve got a 1/2 day at work today so I’ll be outta here at noon. Woo!

Happy Thanksgiving ever’body!

Well, we went out and got a deadbolt at Lowe’s last night, then I spent an hour and a half installing it (so butch!). I’m not sure I particularly like this lock…the old one was a solid metal Yale facemount deadbolt. It weighed like 2 pounds once I got it off the door. The new one is a kinda wimpy thing with a plastic box (the locking parts are metal, though). Weighs about 6 ounces, total. Bleah.

Anyway, put it on…the doorframe part is too high. Adjust it. It’s too low. Adjust it again (cutting pieces of wood out of the doorframe to give it room). Too high again. I finally got it just right, but you have to lean your weight on the door to get the door part far enough in that it’ll engage.

sigh I don’t get this butch stuff…

Checking in. There’s 2 inches of snow on the ground in the NE Indianapolis suburbs at the moment. Gawd, I miss Virginia…

Hey y’all. Finally dropping in - to say that I’m heading out! Yay! Leaving in about an hour for the airport. Leaving myself plenty of time, 'cause I know it should be busy. Just hoping I’ll be able to find a parking spot!

Susan

The google ads are for Schlage locks and stair treads.

Happy Thanksgiving to everybody!

Kewlies! I single-handedly influenced the Google Ads!

BOW TO MY POWER!!

That would be so butch if I hadn’t typed “kewlies”…

OK- I have nine people coming over tomorrow and my 7 year old has been up all noc vomitting. Oh, wait, that’s 7 people, not 9. But kid is still 7 y/o and still vomitting.

I’m not feeling all that hot, my own self.

please load on sympathy etc.

Thank you in advance.

And many happy returns of the day to any and all here that qualify for such.

Sorry about your kid, Eleanor. Being sick ~and~ having a sick kid at the same time is the worst!

At least here, I just have a slight headache, and it’s sunny and about 72 F outside.

I thought it was the law that there had to be at least one pukey kid at all family gatherings. Anyways, Rigs (what? You said you didn’t like Elly!) I hope the kid’s all better soon and you too.

jayjay if you’re butch enough to rip a lock off the door, you are butch enough to replace it and say kewlies.

Just so y’all know, folks were all but fightin’ each other over my dressing.

Bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored.

I hate the day before Thanksgiving. I’m thinking about getting drunk at lunch just to make the afternoon a little more interesting. Well, not really … well, maybe.

In case I don’t make it back before it’s my turn to post again on Monday …

Happy Thanksgiving, Americans!
(and happy Thursday, everybody else!)

And Happy Birthday, Unca Rue!!!

I think that’s all I’ve got.

I have just returned from the store. I was talking with the hosts of tomorrow’s Turkey Day soiree and discovered that they had made no plans for having greens. It’s a good thing for them I found this out or they would have made a major fox paw. So, I have collard greens soaking to get all the ick out of 'em. Then I will gently tear the leaves and cook 'em up nice and tender with a ham bone which I just happened to have in my freezer. What? Doesn’t everybody have spare hambones in their freezers?

I talked with ACBG right after I found this out. (He’s on his way over to his mamanym’s for the big feast.) He was just as aghast as I was. Imagine, no greens! Maybe now he understands why I freeze hambones.

Well, my baby and her current squeeze arrived safely at 4:15 this morning. I awoke at 1AM and I’ve been up ever since. Needless to say, I’m dragging right about now.

But we’ve got a fire roaring and we’re settling in for an evening for quality family time.

And I don’t know if this means something, but both **FCD ** and the new BF are wearing identical flannel lounge pants from WalMart. Is it a sign??

Everyone have a happy turkey! And Rue, you have a happy B-day! I’m sending the appropriate number of smoochies your way!

I’m cleaning up some and boiling sweet potatoes for the lovely sweet-potato-orange-pecan casserole. This serves the dual purpose of giving flavors a chance to mingle overnight (I’ll do the pecan part tomorrow) and humidifying the house now, since I’m still coughing. Have I mentioned that this is annoying?

Sorry about the vomitty kid Rigs - I like that nick, hope you do too. Hope the holiday is still a good one.

I should be in here on the appropriate day, but thought I’d get in a festive
Happy Birthday!!!
to Rue.

Gotta go clean and cook (brother is getting his hair cut and I’d like the house to look better before he gets back).

Happy Turkey Day everyone! (Even those who don’t celebrate it…have some turkey anyway!)

GT

Rigs is all right with me–I like Rigby, too.
Kid is better, I am dog tired–dayum but my house was dirty!

Repeat after me: I will not kick my BIL in the shorts if he starts in on racial/liberal/sexist slurs…but I will have some crushing riposte ready.

(god he’s an ass)

Have fun with your turkeys everyone!

Swampy --do you also use those hambones to make soup? Yummers!

Swampy - I may not be from the South, nor do I like greens, but I do have a ham bone or two in the freezer, awaiting soupification.

Green, soups, beans… I have hambones for all occasions. One of the entrees for tomorrow is a bone in ham from which I shall procure the bone. It’s already been promised to me. Is it weird that I have friends who will promise to save me hambones? Sometimes I can buy them at the store. I like that. They’re usually really meaty. When my neighbor cooks greens she’ll put in a small picnic ham. Her greens are a meal unto themselves. YUM!

rigs glad the kid is better. Don’t kick your BIL in the shorts. Head butt him instead. It’s more fun and a lot funnier.

Giblets are cooked and in their broth, awaiting gravy-fication. Dressing is prepared and awaiting baking. Apple pie baked, check. Punkin pie baked, check. Kitchen floor mopped, check. Guest bath cleaned, check. Gone to the grocery store for last minute stuff, check.

Happy Turkey Day, all!
