Almost laundry time. Cold and windy here, too, but no snow until tomorrow. Today is intensive housework day. I have a big batch of black bean and veggie soup in the crockpot, made with the ham stock from yesterday. I went kind of mad with the ham and collected the fatty bits and rendered them for lard. Because it was such a pointless activity it felt like playing. And now I have real lard to roast potatoes in for dinner.
I also made very good semi-Mexican semi-refried beans. We’ve got a lot of them. I’m trying to think of things to use them for besides nachos and burritos.
I still have to reorganize both of the freezers and tidy. I am all houseworky and efficient today.
Lissla --infect me with the housewife virus, please!
I can’t get motivated. I DID get rid of a large amount o’ crap (Vietnam Vet Van came while I was shopping), but I have dust bunnies having babies over here!
All I want to do is crawl into a heater and bask…
I so need either a robot or Alice. She worked for the love of it, no? Ellen – I did my moniker that way 'cause it was easier and looked better than 2 r’s.
Well, he was a friend of mine, and I invited him in to get some waffle scraps (he loves waffle scraps because they’re gooey and we won’t cook him gooey waffles because they stick to the waffle bakers, apparently.)
He turned down my gift of scraps, though, because he had just bought Taco Bell food when I called him.
I never believed in the Puff=Marijuana bit, but never realized that Puff was a toy before, either. That’s one more bit of ignorance sucessfully defeated!
I bought socks today. 12 pair for Tom and 6 pair for me. Socks ain’t cheap! But he’s been wearing holey socks for a couple of months, so it was time. I also told him he has to throw away all the holey socks. He hardly has room for all the socks he has! And they all have holes! And he’s got tons of boxers. Some with the elastic all stretched out that he won’t throw away. He luuuvs his boxers. I think it’s an addiction. But I’m an enabler… I like to buy him new ones, too!
Everyone’s talking about cold, blustery weather. Makes me happy to be here as we’re having a bit of a heat wave. Got up to about 80 yesterday, which is certainly unusual, but nice.
The ironic part is I just got a new jacket to replace the one that got packed into the semi last month. Going to be a while before I need it, apparently. :smack:
Flurries only–but windy as hell (is hell windy?). I know it’s a lawnmower because I saw it. He then got out his leaf blower (how silly!) and proceeded to demonstrate an exercise in futility.
Hey, it beats daytime TV.
Back from vet-cat must stay overnoc. Needs some dental work. Yay! A mini-vaca from my cat! I feel like when the kids all go to camp or something…
It’s actually gotten cooler here as the day progresses. We got us some cool weather blowing in. Supposed to get down to 38F tonight. BRRRRR! I’m sorta glad to see it. It’s supposed to get cooler now. Even though I am a summer baby and loves me some hot weather, we need a time of cooling off so I can appreciate summer when it gets here.
Tonight I get to have dinner with Methodists. We’re having a get together with the Methodists we’ll be sharing space with. It’s a welcome to our place thing which I think is nice of 'em.
The beef stew I had for lunch was so yummmmmmm! It feels like beef stew weather sorta outside so I think that made it all the better. ACBG was all jealous that I got to have homemade beef stew, specially since he knows the beef stew maker and what a wunnerful cook she is.
Since it’s supposed to be cooler, maybe I’ll make some beef stew this weekend. Or soup. Or lasagna. Or chili. Yay for being able to get out my big ol’ stew/soup/lasagna/chili making thing! I have a couple of nice beef roasts in the freezer that would make good beef stew.
Lunch today was a can of Iced Tea and a Honey Bun from our brand new junk food vending machine. I was the first customer! So I am really hungry. I’m taking the GF out for clothes shopping for her interview. But I think I’m going to lobby for a stop at a steak house before the stores.
It’s been great here the last few days. But the rain starts real soon (and probably already hitting the VunderAbode), and the temps are going to go into the 30s and 40s on a regular basis now. Good-bye, Summer.
Oh no no no no! You do not get off that easy! A bon mot dropped in like that just (in parentheses, no less) has to be explained.
Well, it’s not really news to some folks here. My husband and I have agreed to seperate, but first we want to re-finance the house. And he has to find a place to live.
We are friendly enough, I suppose, but after 17 years of (fill in the blank here)–it’s just not happening for us. I will miss the idea of him when he is gone and most likely find that there were things I did not appreciate as I should have, but we both agree, it’s for the best.
This place is truly addictive. This is a bad thing when your house looks as mine does. Strength of character is needed here. (like that’s gonna happen<snort>).
Took me a while to catch up (we’re gonna pretend I know what’s goin on, okay?), so bear with me.
Hope Picuhubby is back to his old self soon, same with FairyChatDad.
Who was talking about the recipe software? We’ve had Master Cook for years and like it okay but it has some limitations, and now it’s been bought by ValueSoft, a company not known for it’s…ummm…sterling reputation. Anyway, please keep us posted here about what programs you look at, 'kay?
There’s something wrong with the TMJ on my right side also. It pops when I open my mouth. Yeah, I know, I should keep my mouth shut, but anyway…For years my dentist tried to get me to have it replaced with one of those teflon joints. Now we’re hearing about those teflon things disintegrating in peoples’ jaws. Glad I didn’t listen to him now, I am.
I’m going to the Governor’s Mansion tonight! My college (well, ok, not mine anymore but the one that invites me to alum events and tries to suck more money out of me) is having an event there. I figured I’m probably not going to have alotta other opportunities to go there, so why not? And since I’m going to start looking for a new job sometime soon, the networking would be a good thing too. There’s no actual dinner, just hor d’oerves and dessert, but that’s usually the best part anyway! I’m excited.
I’m just not sure how to kill time between now and 5:45 when we’re officially allowed to get there (can’t arrive early for security reasons… because people who arrive early are more likely to be terrorists…?). Oh, wait… I could just hang out here to waste time!
Back from a shopping spree of sorts. We picked up my meds and some critter food, then to the grocery store for some grocery stuff, then to BJ’s for nuts and ribs and sugar free popsicles. I’ve got a small pork roast in the rotisserie, some corn in the microwave, and sugar snap peas in the steamer. It’s gonna be a yummmmmmm dinner.
It’s windy like crazy here, and we’re anticipating 30s tonight, and highs in the 40s tomorrow. Yep, summer is gone. But this time next week, my baby will be here - YAY! And she’s gonna freeze her Florida buns off. hehehe
This is one of my major peeves. Every time they say “Served with au jus” I want to smack them with something heavy and sharp!! Doesn’t anyone know what au jus means? Correction - doesn’t anyone who writes commercials know what au jus means?
Sorry. I’ll be calm. Really. Just ignore the crazy lady…
I just had a nap after laundry, and now it’s time to finish the dishes and make dinner. I am sending housework viruses (virii?) to anyone who needs them.
