Guilty Pleasures - Coronavirus Edition

I hear that.

I’ve been getting back into the Arrowverse, which is hopelessly dumb, but entertaining enough.

Soooooooooo much Law & Order. duh dun

My other guilty pleasure, and yes I do feel somewhat guilty, is laying on the couch for an hour or two at a time and playing Two Dots on my phone. I just get my work done, let the kids go outside and lay back and relax. I can’t remember the last time I was able to do something like that so consistently. And I’m saving the world!

Have you considered getting Disney+?

Prime has “Monk,” and I’m binging that. I only saw it hit-or-miss during its original run. Next up is “Psych,” which I’m trying to introduce Girl Wonder to. Then I think we’ll tackle “Letterkinney.” I’ve seen a few episodes here and there, but never say down and binged it.

I just got a Roku, and even before we pay for the channel, we get a free season of Homicide Unit: Istanbul, a German series set in Turkey. Then we pay and watch the other seasons, as well as the rest of Murder In:, a series set in different places in France.
If we get desperate enough we can shell out the $0.99 a month to watch Australian TV.

I’ve been binging old seasons of MTV’s The Challenge, which was originally the Real World / Road Rules Challenge. If you have Amazon, for $5.99 a month you can add MTV Hits and have seasons 20 to 31 available for binging. Those were some great seasons.

Well, I watched The Stand (the 1994 one, not the upcoming one), does that count?

I’d seen a bit of it on TV about 20 years back, when away on business. I liked it so much that I bought the book at an airport gift shop on the way home (and almost immediately started having cold symptoms :p).

I’m in the process of reading a bunch of old threads. I find them fascinating.
Why do you pick those particular years?

I’m currently working my way through King of the Hill the tv series again. I don’t know if it’s a guilty pleasure as I think it’s actually quite good, but it is a cartoon.

Og hates me. Usually this is fine, because of full reciprocity.
But today, Og won.

Watched some tv before work. Fine.
Lunchtime. I fix some soup, which insane parkour cat moves caused said soup to be dumped on my chest.
Clean self, change shirt, clean carpet, abandon meal and just sit to relax.
Turn on TV.
No picture.
Spend an hour trying to contact help, give up. Both store and manufacturers help desk are closed until Monday.
Download manual. Spend 30 minutes trying to find “control panel” on tv. Helpfully hidden under bottom edge of tv. Of course.
No help. Manual says “you’re fucked until Monday.”

So I get to try to stream to iPad,which has not been good in the past.

Manual was right. I’m fucked.

And the liquor that was supposed to be delivered this afternoon will not get here until Monday.

How come april’s Friday the 13th falls on the 10th this year?

I binge watch ‘House M.D.’ on Tuesdays, all day. Yes, I am just sitting there from 11 a.m. till 8 p.m.

Fridays, binge watch ‘Pawn Star’ reruns , 11 a.m. till 8 p.m.

Sometimes I run across ‘Hoarders’ and cannot look away.

‘Dirty Jobs’ has marathons!

Every afternoon if not interrupted by more Virus News, ‘Funny You Should Ask’, a very cheap but hilarious game show with a panel of well-known comedians (Howie Mandel, Louie Anderson,John Lovitz). The host reads one of those believe-it-or-not news items and the comedian gives a jokey comment and says ‘oh yes, that’s true’ (or false). The contestant has to guess if it’s true or false… I never fail to get a couple of laughs. Just one half hour of this silliness a day gives me the will to go on.

Oh, and Comet TV shows sci-fi movies, everything from excruciatingly bad 70’s movies (Amityville 10) to Japanese Godzilla things to old Vincent Price ham-fests . A step up from SyFy channel.

If you are into, or want to try, Korean soap opera/romance - *Winter Sonata (2002) * was a HUGE hit in the far east and a real game changer for Korean drama.

Here’s a clip from the first episode where the characters are still in high school.
