Your Guilty Television Pleasure

So, Billy Bob Thornton announced on late night television that he enjoys watching Saved by The Bell.

My guilty pleasure has always been shows like COPS and Wildest Police Videos.

I dunno why. There’s just something about watching idiots get arrested over and over again that I find particularly amusing. They rarely show “serious” stuff on COPS, it’s almost always drunken imbeciles mouthing off to the police. Classic.

Wow. Just reading the title I was going to respond with Saved by the Bell. On further consideration though, I think SbtB was much more popular and legit than people want to admit. Less popular, however, would be another guilty television pleasure of mine: Saved by the Bell: The New Class. I mean, honestly, I am embarassed to admit that I enjoyed that show because I know it was so bad…but now I crave it so hard. Though it probably hasn’t aired in four or five years, it popped into my head just yesterday. It makes me feel genuinely guilty.

V.I.P. nuff’ said.

The Looove Boat,
Soon we’ll be making another run.
The Loooove Boat,
Promises something for everyone.
Set a course for adventure your mind on a new romance…

<cough>Tempatation Island<cough>

I love Cops too. My favorites are when the doggies are brought out.

My most guilty pleasure…::sigh::

I’m so embarressed…

DON’T EVER TELL MY HUSBAND!!

I’d never hear the end of it.

The A-Team!! (You damn foo’s)

The A-Team by miles. Thought it might be Xena, but Xena actually had some respectibility and plot variety. I think all the A-Team plots can be summed up in a couple of lines:

A-Team goes to help nice guy against bad guy.
A-Team finds bad guy and kicks his henchmen around.
A-Team captured by bad guy.
A-Team locked in garage.
A-Team builds something.
A-Team kicks bad guy’s butt.

Somewhat like a porn flick, plot just gets in the way of the action.

America’s Funniest Home Videos. I can watch Dad get whacked in the nuts over and over again. Hee hee.

I read two newspapers every day–so don’t watch the news.

The last sitcom I enjoyed was Cheers. Just don’t watch 'em.

ER? NYPD? CSI? Nahh, too many acronyms.

Movies on TV? Not when I can rent unedited, commercial free versions.

If it weren’t for sports, I’d not even subscribe to cable.

But I’ve gotten hooked on Ally McBeal, of all things. Very clever show, if a bit silly at times. The ironic thing is that the Ally character is the least interesting part of the show. I much prefer the court cases, the other relationships that develop, and the Fishisms. Especially the Fishisms.

Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood.

Pretty pitiful, I know. I think it fills in a missing link from childhood.

I think it only lasted one season, but for some absurd reason I was totally hooked on Love Boat: The next wave or whatever the series with Robert Urich as the captain was. I was so sweet on the son, Danny, lol.

S Club 7

Don’t stop, never give up,
Hold your head high and reach the top,
Let the World see what you have got,
Bring it all back to you

Gotta love that Tina

Blues Clues (that Steve is HOT…but don’t tell my man I said that)

reruns of All in the Family and The Jeffersons

reruns of Emergency, Adam-12 and Dragnet

I also have a thing for The Drew Carey Show and Whose Line is it

Oh lord. Sometimes when I come home early in the afternoons? And I find that Maury Povich is on? I watch it. I can rant to you for 45 minutes about how everything about those sort of shows represent what is wrong with America… but I get sucked in and can’t stop watching Maury sometimes.

Wow. That’s humiliating to confess. Good thing I work most days.

Watching the A-Team is guilty? I thought all respectable people watched it!

I pity the foo too!

Hey Attrayant…don’t feel bad…I watch that too!

I’m glad someone’s already mentioned Wildest Police Videos so I don’t have to.

I can’t change the channel if I come across a Discovery Channel or Travel Channel show about Las Vegas casinos.

I’m embarrassed to admit I’m still hooked on ER. I know it jumped the damn shark about seven cast changes ago, but I’m still fascinated. I have to watch to see how the writers are going to top themselves. Stabbings and shootings in the ER? Mercy killings? Graphically depicted suicide attempts? Hey, why not? Just about the only thing left for them to do is set off a neutron bomb in the middle of the hospital.

I have several:

  • Swamp Thing (the half-hour TV show on USA)
  • The Brady Bunch
  • Gilligan’s Island (this one and the Brady Bunch are “comfort TV” for me–something totally fluffy from my childhood that never fails to make me feel better when I’m down)
  • Fantasy Island
  • Highway to Heaven
  • Little House on the Prairie
