Well, since Swan’s Crossing and Fifteen are dead and gone I’m left with watching any sordid talk show that deals with makeovers or animals. Ricky & Jenny are always good for the Hot or Not/My Mom dresses like a Ho shows and Maury is good for animals that like to bite and poop on talk show hosts. Good times. Good times.
Hey! I also like SpongeBob SquarePants. I watch it everyday before going to school.
One of my guilty pleasures are some of the movies on the Lifetime network, despite the fact that I like to mock that station.
Sometimes I will watch The Brady Bunch marathons. And, at least once a week, I watch Scooby-Doo. I hate that show, yet I still watch it, which is why I list it here.
I look forward to the Emmys and Academy Awards, despite the fact that they are just popularity contests and the fact that I realize how phony Hollywood is.
7th Heaven
Soap operas (coming up on 20 years of being a soap fan!)
but the one that pains me most to admit…
QVC (home shopping)
Hey, when you want something on T.V. in the background while you’re surfing the Dope, and you want it to be something that will neither annoy you nor get you too absorbed…oh, never mind. I guess I just like bright, shiny things.
hmmm, my first thought here was QVC (home shopping), and I see someone else has beat me to it. There is just something about it that draws me in, despite the fact that most of their merchandise is hideous and overpriced. I have never bought anything over the phone or internet, but I can’t beat the addiction. I even have a favorite QVC host. sigh
This is one of mine too, ever since the late 70’s, believe it or not. Lately it’s not been a fav (haven’t tuned in for a few months), but I never miss the annual sappy xmas episode when they hang the ornaments on the tree with everyone’s name on it. Looking forward to that one soon.
And whenever I see the episode where he meets Sandy and goes to visit her, I practically have to go to the E.R. to stop the violent diaphragm contractions.
Years ago, when I was a kid and we had satellite, I really got into reruns of Diff’rent Strokes and The Facts of Life. Needless to say, I was really pissed with my parents when they cancelled the satellite, as we went back to four channels. It was only when I visited the USA last year that I saw reruns of TFOL on Nick at Nite, and realised how cheesy and schmaltzy it really was. To think I used to RUN home from school each day to catch that show!
I also used to like Roseanne, and never missed a single episode. Now, whenever it comes on TV when I’m at work, I have to switch channels. God, that woman’s voice annoys me. And her chat show - what a load of garbage!
Oh, and I often watch QVC too. Never bought anything, as I think most of the merchandise is crap. It’s amusing to see the presenters trying to talk about a rather unremarkable product for hours on end, and running out of things to say about it. They try so hard to pad out their slot by gushing over whatever they’re selling, when it’s obvious that, deep down, they know full well it’s a useless piece of shit.
SoapNet is one of the channels I wouldn’t admit to watching around my friends. Of course, when I do watch, I’m making up dialogue for “Roberto” and “Jasmine SuperFlowerSunshine”. Occasionally, Jasmine SuperFlowerSunshine’s mother or Roberto’s long-lost twin with amnesia comes into the picture for one of those sordid love triangles. My mother keeps throwing me out of the room when I do this. Can’t imagine why.
Those stupid Lifetime movies. Cheesy storylines, poorly written…but so addictive. Other TV movies just can’t compare.
The really pathetic talk shows. Not Maury, but the “my teenage daughter is lying, cheating, stealing scum, please change her hairstyle so she can solve all her problems” variety. (Jenny Jones, anyone?)
[sub]The most embarrassing of all, though, had to be an HBO showing of Bring It On…I’m so ashamed.[/sub]

Looney Tunes. Police videos. Forensics shows. Lifetime movies that are based on true stories. Dexter’s Laboratory. Commercial compilation shows.
I also really don’t mind the kiddie shows my little one watches during the day. Although “Out of the Box” does get on my nerves. It’s like Barney without the dinosaur.
