I’m sure all of us are busy watching Ken Burns documentaries,* Star Trek: Picard*, and Best Picture nominees. But there are 24 hours in a day, and sooner or later we all regress to the mean.
Which is to say, at some point we all watch junk. So, here’s the thread to share our recent guilty pleasures, hidden delights, or simply clicking on the remote until something, anything caught our eye for a few minutes.
Here’s your chance to come clean and unburden your conscience in a safe space. No fair mocking other posters just because they had the guts to speak up. I’ll go first.
Earth Girls Are Easy - starring Geena Davis and Jeff Golblum, but the standout performance is Julie Brown as Cherry Pink.
Watching old Seinfelds on Hulu and loving it. It’s like a big plate of meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, with warm rolls and butter for the soul. I don’t have to think too hard, I know what’s coming in every episode, and they still make me laugh out loud.
I tend not to feel guilty about what others would consider guilty pleasures. But, regardless, I think Earth Girls Are Easy is a great movie.
Also, from what I’ve been hearing, they’re supposed to be some kind of live action documentary coming out soon based on Angelyne. I’m curious if they’ll reveal what’s going on with her face, though I assume she got some bad plastic surgery.
As for me, I started watching Community. Never seen it until a few days ago and tore through the entire first season and started on the second. It’s really good, I can’t believe I missed in when it was on.
I’ve been playing a silly role-playing game called Legends of Amberland. Lots of quests and monsters. Have to keep track of spell points and character stats and all that nerdiness.
Kakegurui, an Anime about a school of rich kids where gambling is mandatory. I initially liked the aspect that every winner was a cheater, so our plucky heroine had to not only unravel how they cheated but beat them at their own game. But then the women would grab each other’s boobs for no reason, and making orgasmic faces as they gambled. Add in this weird undertone that gambling is virtuous, since the addicts are trying to drag everyone else into their vice and using bankruptcy to build friendships, and man do I feel dirty for watching both seasons of it.
I’ve actually started watching Airplane Repo on Discovery Sci. I don’t believe for a second that it isn’t scripted, but damn! Some of the scenarios are pretty good!
If nothing else is on, I’ll revert to watching Seinfeld, Corner Gas, Two and a Half Men, and the like. But since I’ve seen every episode multiple times, they’re pretty much filler/white noise playing in the background while I work on the computer or wash dishes.
See No Evil is pretty good too. Especially since I’ve seen every episode of*** Forensic Files*** *ad *infinitum.
Korean dramas on Netflix. We’re currently watching Crash Landing on You, and will move on to Itaewon Class when we’re done with that. We’ll also finally get around to Reply 1988, which has been in our watch list forever.
I’m also watching Kakegurui, I’m about halfway through the second season. I like how the heroine will sometimes go all in on a crazy bet, and that would get into the heads of her opponents. They try to work out what’s her angle, or what does she see that they are missing, then in the end it’s revealed she didn’t know anything, it was all just luck. She doesn’t always win, either.
I’ve always watched TLC’s “Sister Wives” as my main reality “guilty pleasure.” I actually got into it when user **stoid **was all about it way back when. It’s definitely a trainwreck.
Most Sister Wives fans are in to the TLC show “90 Day Fiance” so I started watching that. So far the first couple seasons are bland but I’m promised some ramping up of the drama soon.
Interestingly, one of the guys from the first season was from Cleveland and now lives not too far from me. His marriage has so far been successful.
Really. I’ve had a crush on Diane Lane ever since I was in high school and took my girlfriend to see A Little Romance. Her scenes in Unfaithful help evolve ‘crush’ to something, uhh, a little more than that.
But, ohMyGaaaaawd what a sloooow movie.
Watching lots of *Friends.*It looks like it’s a daily marathon on TBS(?) They’ve now gone back to the first season and it’s weird to see how young they all looked and also Monica’s wretched fashion. Still funny to me though.
Seen a lot of old movies on TCM.
But the thing that makes me cringe with guilt is . . . . Dr. Phil.:o
I’ve been zoned out on The Food Network. I’m not that into cooking but suddenly I’m loving:
Guys Grocery Games
Spring Baking Championship
The Great Food Truck Race
Supermarket Stakeout
My 6 and 9 year old are always home thanks to Covid so the list of programs I can tolerate and my children are allowed to watch and will enjoy is very small. The Amazing World of Gumball and Wipeout on PlutoTV are on a lot now.
