Those who compain about high post counts and insist that they are a sign of a loser always seem to miss this key point: the time taken to write an average post (such as this one) is tiny. It’s the time taken to read the threads that is the timekiller.
Now admittedly there’s been a few posts that have taken up to an hour to write (the one advising 'punha on his essay writing technique that garnered absolutely zero responses springs to mind, not that I’m bitter or anything). But for the main, they’re no big deal. However I’ve wasted many an hour reading through a big debate and made no response to it whatsoever.
High post counts are not indicative of how much time one spends on the board - they only illustrate the willingness of the poster to respond when they think of a point to make. Guin and Apricot may spend exactly the same time each day on the SD - we’ll never know. Those 12 posts per day will take on average about 30 mins. This is insignificant compared to the reading time involved.
It’s like the statistics of how many posts one makes to the pit or GD. Until this MB finds a way to count the posts we read, all attempts to pigeonhole people will be futile.
