Guinastasia, Walk Away from the computer

I doubt that. There are posters here who have racked up hundreds of posts in fast-moving game threads that require maybe 10 seconds of thought per post. The infamous “a” thread, for example. The time spent reading the thread really becomes an issue only when you arrive late to a multi-page discussion. And some of us are just damn fast readers.

10-15 minutes per post? I think the average for me is 5 minutes overall plus some reading time. But 3 hours a day sounds right on average. How much TV do you watch per day combined with internet browsing/surfing. I think for a lot of people it is the same 3 hours.

Jim {Hi, my name is Jim, I am a SDMB addict and liking it}

Change your name to Ubiquitous!

Says the guy with almost 6000 posts in less than a year…

No shit, Sherlock. That was his whole point–that it’s fairly easy to rack up a good-sized post count without putting a significant amount of time into it. Do try to keep up. :wally

No kidding. It took me all of 16 seconds to read, hit reply and post.

If the other person is an adult, it generally isn’t wise to give advice sometimes even if she or he asks for it. I tend to do it anyway. It’s one of my flaws.

I pride myself on my honesty. I have also made a somewhat humbling discovery in my old age that I don’t always know what is best for someone else no matter how simple and obvious it may seem to me. What may look to you like a “feel good” post may actually be caution and respect on someone else’s part.

So it could be that I am wrong and that you really do know what’s best for someone else. At least I have no doubt about the integrity of you motives. But what about giving Guin credit for having some sense? Where’s the respect?

Let’s put it this way. I don’t even remind my husband to take an umbrella when it may rain later in the day. I have to bite my tongue to keep from doing it because I am a person who wants to “fix” things and nurture. But it’s a matter of respect for his having his own good mind. (This was something I learned in therapy – for what it’s worth.)

No offense intended to you, Waverly, but perhaps you are the one who is doing the unhealthy coddling of this woman.

I’m staying out of this argument, but this post really made me giggle.

How so? All I have done is counter the “you go girl!” type posts that I think are woefully inappropriate.

You were a teacher. Think back. You know damn well that you would want each and every one of your students to have a job and some measure of independence by the time they hit their mid twenties. If you thought they were off that path, would you hug them and tell them to keep on doing what made them feel good, or would you remind them that happiness in the long run might involve some sacrifice now? You might be loath to give specific advice, but you would know in your gut that enabling feels good, but is wrong.

Holy fuckin cock-and-balls. That sum’bitch, as of this posting, has a whopping 21 post per day average.

WTF???

Is there anyone higher than that? Goddamn.

I doubt it, and it will drop again. There has been a burst of posting by me over the last few months. My average was down around 12 per day before Christmas.
Why, do you have a problem with it or just surprised? I don’t start many threads but I do reply very often. I was trying to point out the time consumption is not really that bad, but I guess that point was missed. (by some)

Jim

You do know that we can see your timestamps and see that you spend more than 3 hours online each day, right?

I probably spend three hours online a day but rarely post (relatively.) Posts per day is a poor indicator of how you spend your time, IMHO.

Reading this thread is like listening into an AA meeting at the local pub.

Assuming facts not in evidence.

I’m online 24/7 unless the electricity is out. I only close browser windows to reboot.

And yet in all that time, I don’t think I’ve ever checked to see how much time other people were spending online. Obviously, I don’t know how to have fun.

Fuckin’ crapload of posts to this thread, anyway. I think there might be a few posters here & there who have the actual hots for guin, just on the evidence of all that activity.
Yes, I know Q.E.D.

Ha.

All my computers run all day and I drop in and out as it suits me. It probably looks like I’m online 24 hours a day! When do I sleep?!

Exactly!

Isn’t there enough porn out there that people waste their online time checking how much time other people spend online. Is it anyone’s business? What a bunch of busibodies.

Me? I hadn’t even noticed that Guin had that many posts. I guess I had other things to do.

Overruled. Counsel is a shitbeetle.

This ain’t Boston Legal, Q, and you’re sure as shit no James Spader. Red’s pointing out the (obscenely) obvious: this thread’s all about the ratio of signal to noise. I can see why you’d object.
