I’ve been on the Dope for a long time now, but I guess I’m just not quick enough or something. Why does everyone hate on Guin all the time? She’s like the Meg Griffin of the Straight Dope. I know she posts a lot, but surely that alone can’t be it. So what is it? Why is she the cootie girl?
Is that the only example you have? A Pit thread is a common place to find random potshots directed all over the place. I haven’t seen such a trend in general on the boards but maybe I wasn’t paying attention. The last time the name came up to me was in ATMB when someone anonymously gifted her a membership here.
Feels to me like it’s an out-of-date meme like Opal Love. Perhaps at one time Guin stood out as something but now she’s older and doesn’t do it anymore…but people nitpick to make it seem like she does.

I don’t hate her. But I find her pathetic, mainly because she’s a spoiled brat. She is completely supported by her parents, has no skills, appears to be very lazy, and can’t (or more likely doesn’t want to) hold a job or contribute to society. Her parents have coddled her for so long that she has never grown up. She also doesn’t contribute intellectually to any GD thread; she is only here for social reasons, and perhaps because she’s bored. I admit I have contempt for people like this.
But I’m an asshole, and I kinda like her.
Plus she’s a ginger.

I, for one, haven’t noticed much of any “hate” thrown on Guinastasia. If that link you referenced in the OP is all there is, then this is a non-issue. Then again, I could easily have missed much of what you seem to be saying has been out there. If that is the case, provide me (and the rest of us) with some evidence of this “hate”.
I believe the girl is disabled, correct? Epilepsy and mental health issues.
I also remember her working in a family business. I know she lost a job because of health issues, but I do not think she’s lounging around on a canopy bed, gabbing on a princess phone all day long.
As far as contributing intellectually on the board, most Dopers are not exactly founts of knowledge or wit. I do not find you particularly intellectually stimulating, for instance. If being here for social reasons was against the rules, then there would be no one here.
So I still don’t get it.

She was working at a science center part time for a while. I thought she was laid off but maybe it was for health reasons. I know when she started working there, I found her outlook to be vastly improved.
You have to be here for some time to notice it. There’s no way for me to post to all the snark because it’s unsearchable. No pit threads where the hatred is formally established. Just drive-by insults, like the one linked to in the OP.

Yeah. Me too. On both counts. Known her for years. Has never gotten on my nerves. And I avoid anything that might. It’s the secret to a happy online relationship.
The **Guin **hate is mostly just vestiges of the past. I don’t think she’s much like this any more, but there was a time when she would post literally all day long, into the thousands and thousands of posts, yet say absolutely nothing worthwhile or contributory. Most, if not all, of her posts were “me too!” or something insipid and moronic. Even I got sick of her, and I’m extremely tolerant of other posters. But, I think she’s gotten much better, or at least that’s how it seems- I could be wrong. Her posts now seem much less frequent and much more thoughtful, even worth reading most of the time.
