Gun-totin' Liberals

Don’t get along with the family?

Maybe he feels that a stress-free family gathering is 1% inspiration & 99% perforation…?

I’m more of a centrist Democrat, but here in the mid-south, that makes me a liberal pinko commie.

I grew up with firearms, have a carry permit and like to target shoot. My current arsenal is pretty puny compared to some of you, but it’s back up to four small caliber handguns.

Another one here. Got my first gun that was called mine when I was 11. I own 8 now.

We live quite far out in the sticks. No police protection (not that anybody really has it anywhere), and quite a few large critters about. And, I just enjoy shooting them. The protection aspect is just a bonus.

Voted for Obama, wants “socialized” medicine, all for gay marriage, don’t personally want an abortion but thinks they should be a choice.

I don’t have a gun, but only because I don’t have a real use for one right now. I’d like to get a little .22 with a scope for some target practice. I used to go out shootin’ in the desert with my coworkers when I lived in Oregon, but I don’t really have that opportunity here.

I own 4 guns - I tote a Beretta .380, single stack. Voted Obama.

I too am a gun toting lib. I love when we are called panzies, and sissies. I always hear the little titter of laughter when someone down here (La.) finds out im a liberal. Just because I am lib does NOT mean I wont shoot your face right off your body (if the reasons are good). But yeah go on thinking we are all pussies.

I’m pretty liberal, but I’m also a strong supporter of the RTKBA (I don’t mean just guns, either–I take offense at laws aimed at keeping me from toting knives, clubs, and swords around, too). I do favor restrictions on weapons in the hands of convicted felons and the mentally impaired.

On the other hand, I don’t tote (or even own) a gun myself. I’ve been taught enough to use one safely, but I have a strong personal aversion to them; I don’t even like holding a gun, let alone firing it.

I’m Left of Gandhi (no, really!) and I like shooting targets. I don’t own a gun at the moment, because I don’t have much time for it and don’t live somewhere I’d feel safe with one (in the city, I’d be more afraid of an intruder/thief taking it and using it against me or my family than reassured it was around for safety.) If/when I move to the countryside, I’ll probably get a nice little manageable handgun for fun and maybe pegging woodchucks. No rifles, though - I just don’t have the upper body strength; my shoulder’s a mess when I try.

I scored right near Ghandi and I own and support the right of others to do so as well. I’m in favor of mandatory registration.

Pink Pistols!

BTW, that’s spelled Gandhi.

While acknowledging that totin’ and** liberal** are subject to various interpretations, I’m confident that I am one.

I fired my first .22 when I was about 7 years old. I grew up shooting and hunting and spent 23 years in the military firing all manner of weapons. I still own a couple of rifles and a shotgun, but only hang onto the rifles for sentimental reasons. I’d sell the shotgun to the first person I could trust not to go out and kill somebody with it. I have nothing against guns or responsible gun ownership, but the fanatic 2nd amendment nutsos really get under my skin.

Always wanted a shotgun. I can’t decide between the Mossburg 500, Winchester Defender 1300, or the Remington 870. I almost bought a Winchester Model 24 20 gauge, but when I went to buy it, both of them had just been sold.

Sometimes they drive me crazy too. You have to understand this: the whole culture of people for whom guns is the ONLY important issue, and who are rabidly devoted to agitating in favor of it, is solely a defensive reaction to gun control laws.

People like this did not exist in the 1920s and 1930s and prior. Guns were not an emotional issue. They were just a part of life.

It wasn’t until people started curtailing gun liberties that the whole “my cold dead hands” zealots sprung up. And frankly, I’m grateful that they’re out there. They’re willing to fight to ensure that the 2nd is not further eroded to UK levels. I appreciate that.

I’m an ex-cop, so my life-long affiliation with guns hasn’t changed even as I’ve swung left.

A question: is there some message board devoted to gun topics where incendiary nonsensical sigs (as in signatures, not Sig Sauer) are forbidden, where…well, where people aren’t so crazy? TheHighRoad.org seems closest that I’ve found so far.

You can have my Mossberg pump for $50, if you want to drive down here to buy it.

QFT. If gun rights hadn’t been eroded, there’d be no single-issue pro-gun voters. Gun laws should be anathema to any liberal, as they virtually always have at their roots the goal of keeping guns out of the hands of dark people.

Another leftist with a gun or two. Mostly because I love things that go “BANG” and I love shooting targets. Partly because I’d like to have the means to join the revolution should that become a reasonable option. To that end, I prefer a strong, accurate rifle to a handgun. My skillset and temperament are not conducive to close combat, but I can pierce your ear at 300 yards with open sights.

Not to turn this into a debate about guns, but how have they been eroded? I’ve noticed zero difference in my gun ownership over the past 60 years, and I grew up in the era of guns not being an emotional issue. Of course, I have no interest in automatic weapons and believe them to be unnecessary for the ordinary hunter/citizen. Like every other issue these days, it’s been polarized by the nutsos on either extreme.
