Guns Of Icarus on sale!

I’ve asked to join the clan. My name in game is “Quantrill”. I have extra copies if anyone missed the deal but wants to join.

Ever since I found out about this game, I’ve been skeptical and curious. It sounds like a really cool concept, what with the cooperative ship-board fighting and all, but something in me doubts that it can be sustained fun. What do you folks that have been playing it think? Is it…enjoyable? Will it be popular?

Dunno if it’ll be popular, but we’re having fun with it. We just finished a game with Dioptre and SenorBeef, and before that one with Unauthorized Cinnamon and dark2phoenix. We’re still playing in novice mode, but it’s really fun to coordinate with the crew and with other captains in Team DM. It’s incredibly satisfying to score a kill and it’s even fun to have to limp off into a cloud to hide and repair your systems.

If there were an FTL version of this I would never leave the house.

When you’re with a fun team with mikes it’s fun. It isn’t sophisticated, so probably it will wear thin eventually. Think Team Fortress fun not Red Orchestra or Call of Duty fun.

Anyone here still playing this?

I got it when it was on sale then the next day re-built my PC and forgot I had gotten it.

Would like to give it a go although I am a 100% noob. Only barely done the tutorial and that confused me more than helped.

Still, would like to give it a go if anyone else is up for it.

Oh, we’re absolutely still playing this! oft wears hats and I play a lot and organize some games, and SenorBeef was going to try to organize an eight person game at some point, so talk to one of them on Steam (their Steam user names are the same as their SMDB ones).

I bought this, Space Engineers, and Europa Universalis IV all at the same time.

That, it appears, was a terrible idea. Space Engineers has eaten all my time, and I know enough about the way I play games that I shouldn’t even launch EU unless I have a couple of days where I don’t need to sleep or eat or talk to other humans.

Still, I do want to play this with people. I’ll see about joining the clan through the friend interface.

Do you guys use the in-game voip chat, or a third party app?

I did almost the same thing except it was over the course of a few days and I got Factorio in place of Space Engineers (Factorio is likewise addicting).

I grabbed EU IV on a really good sale but like you I have not installed it because I know it will be a huge time suck. It’ll have to wait another day.

I figure Guns of Icarus is good because it lends itself to playing a few matches casually without (necessarily) taking all your time.

I just looked up Factorio - looks fun!

We either use the in-game chat or the Mumble server SenorBeef set up, depending on who’s playing and what their preferences are.

I’m going to try to organize a big game tonight with 8+ people so we can fill up at least 2 ships. I like to use both mumble and in game voice simultaneously when we have more than one ship - we can use the in-game voice to communicate just with your own crew about tactical issues, while you can still use mumble to communicate with everyone between rounds, or discussing strategy that involves more than one ship.

OK. I’ll be around for the next two hours or so.

OK, I’ve got a game going. Right now we’ve got one ship worth of people, but there’s always room for more!

Alas I cannot join.

Senor Beef blocked me a year or two ago (I remember the whole thing but not when it was).

I am also a 100% noob to this so probably best. Will try some PUG first.

I haven’t blocked you from anything, you’re free to play games, I just took you off my friends list.

Anyway, we had 7 people tonight, so almost two full ships. We have a bunch of people with the game, but I can’t wrangle enough at one time. Still, it was fun. The last match in particular when just 3 of us were left was really close and pretty involved, I’ll probably post a video later.

I’m organizing some games tonight. If you’re interested in playing with us, add me as a friend on steam.

Our play of this game trailed off because the population was pretty low and it was hard to find games, but for whatever reason it has been increasing lately, so I was thinking of trying to get back into it. Anyway, it’s on sale until tomorrow morning for $3.75 or 4 for $7.50. If you have friends that might be interested, just grab the 4 pack and send it to them. It’s actually a really fun game and one of the most teamwork-dependent games I’ve ever played, which makes it interesting.
