Soapy, I’m glad to read your mother has improved a little. I’ll continue to keep all of you in my thoughts.
Two nights ago I had to meet one of my best friends at the vet because she had to put her dog down. It was totally out of the blue. My friend was devastated and her husband was out of town. Poor Wilma was a good girl and I’m going to miss her. She was only eight, but she was riddled with cancer. So strange; it was just like my Cappy; fine one day, doing horrible the next. That was not a good night for any of us.
Last night I was speaking to my son. He informed me that the guy he worked for last summer has informed him that he may not have enough for my son. This sucks big time as next week is his last week of school and now he’s going to have to hit the pavement and find a job for summer. The job he had last summer paid well, and we were sort of counting on that so he could get a better car. Also, for some stupid reason, his replacement debit card got sent back to the CU because “there was no such address”. However, his pin made it to him. Now, he has to wait again and he basically has a week left. What a damn clusterfuck.
**FCM, **I’m sorry about your well woes, and sorry that you won’t be able to go on vacation. However, it is really good that you had the money in savings to cover this.
Give them hell, Bobbio.
Oil tank guy just left. Makes we wish I’d replaced this tank a couple years back when I was thinking about it. Oh well, the chickens have come to roost… He’ll have our oil pumped out tomorrow, and they’ll put the new tank in after the well is done. We’ll get a credit for whatever is in the tank, and they’ll fill the new tank so we start fresh. Of course, heating oil is currently going about $4/gallon and it’ll be a 300 gallon tank, so there’s another ouch! But we’re on the budget plan with them, so they spread our payments out over the whole year to ease the pain.
Did I mention that being a homeowner sucks sometimes? Life was easier when we lived on our boat. Except for being crowded. And having a teensy fridge. And having to go to a laundromat. And it got freekin’ cold in the winter. OK, being a homeowner is better than living on a boat, but this week still sucks.
I can’t even afford to go out and get drunk now… if I drank…
<whimper> send chocolate <whimper>
Well, if you twist my arm and since there has been no offer of pictures -----------
Will be working the vibes for all they are worth; one of the reasons you’ve all been in our prayers. Someone gets ill and its the caregivers who lose as much health as anyone.
Unca Kopeks RX is that you and other closely beloved get a good physical and check-up real soon and another at 6 month and at a year.
When my BIL died:
I had a stroke 6 months later as we were completing his estate
Muvver (my MIL) had a heart attack on what would have been his next birthday
My wife had a clinical bout of depression around the first anniversary.
We spent so much time caring for each other and his memory that we fell apart ourselves. Not good ------ and something a good relationship with a GP/PCP can cure.
Times like that I shop here
(haunt supply - some images could be disturbing)
I recall one time while at the NC VunderLair threatening to hang out a clown suit and a merry widow on the clothesline just to tweak the nose of neighbor CindyTheFlake.
And your point is?
Well, I ain’t skeered of any danged Cthulhu. I bet he’d make some bodacious croaker bait.
Soapy, I second Unca Kopeks. There is a statistically heightened chance of death in the year following the death of a spouse. I’m sure there’s a scientific/medical explanation for it - stress hormones suppressing the immune system, leading to bacterial infections getting in the blood stream, causing inflammation, causing abnormal clotting, causing infarctions.
In the end, it doesn’t matter so much what the mechanism is as it matters that you be aware of it and take measures to counter it. This doesn’t just apply to your mom but also to you, your sister, and your other family.
Having dealt with severe depression, panic attacks, and a crappy immune system, what I’ve found to be the most helpful is listed in order of importance:
Take your mom for walks in the park as soon as she is able. Give her backrubs. If there’s a pet around, bring it with you for extra affection. Grief is stress. Stress depletes us. Love restores us. Especially when it’s a box of kittens.
{{{Ivory}}} Thirding that you all have to take care of yourselves after a loved one passes – my MIL was seemingly perfectly healthy after my FIL died… until she keeled over with a sudden heart attack less than a year later.
I am stuffed and pickled – Independence Day long weekend, including a night out on the bar yesterday with another couple, and the yearly BBQ at my wife’s aunt’s place today – between the two I have ingested enough alcolhol and meat for about a month. And it isn’t even Firday yet!
And I totally think we need to change out national anthem for a day – to this (SFW)
Well I’m working on getting my website redone. I’m converting it to a blog (mostly). First stuff will be about my new home. I need some sort of blurb for the about spot though.
Maybe you need to add a section for swimsuit modeling.
Well, pooh. My sweetie is stuck at work till late because of an open house. So I’ll be dining alone with my daughter. Not that I don’t like hanging with her, but I hate that poor **FCD **is stuck at the office so long. Glad he’s taking tomorrow off.
I approve of this box of kittens treatment. Unfortunately I am not the FDA so my approval counts for nothing.
*
Could really use a box of kittens myself right now.*
Bobbio, when I need hate mail sent, I will have you write it. You write applause-worthy letters.
Hmmmm. How are you folks getting away mit der spicken der Douche? I got in trouble several times for that.

Howdy Y’all! Home from irk. I got call from a friend who told me to stop by and pick up a veggie lasagna as he made up an extra for us. AWWWWWW!!! This stuff is seriously good. It’s bakin’ away as I post and soon as it’s done I shall pop some garlic bread in the oven. A really nice surprise and a tasty dindin!
BBBobbio you should publish a book on nasty letter writin’ to bidnesses. The tours. The sales. The talk shows. The informercial! You’ll be rich!
MOOOOOOM I vote for the guillotine and a life-size headless Marie Antoinette figure sittin’ beside it on a bench. It’d be the hit of the neighborhood! I just know it!
ShinyCat I have a feelin’ the straight mens dopers are gonna just explode if you don’t take a picture in that bathin’ suit soon.

I don’t know that I actually fit in it any more.
So anyway, the site is 99% done and the first two posts are up. So, yeah… link’s in my sig.
I forgot to say even though it’s kinda too late now…
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY ISRAEL!!!
Back among the connected now. Came home to find the burglar alarm in a snit, no dial tone on the phones, no TV and no internet. The house was dead.
Best guess is a backhoe snagged the fiber with all of the freeway construction in the area. It’s all back now, but the construction continues, so this will probably not be the first dig-in.
My first two cats were Morgen (for morning) and Lila (for night in Hebrew). And yes, I keep reading this as gluten morgen.
Mom is doing much better and is home now! Meds administered in ER reversed the damage quickly, and she kept improving overnight and today. She has no remaining effects, as far as the doctors can tell.
Hurrah for modern medicine!
