I’m surprised Kevin James is so ignorant – the guy is supposedly a lawyer. Then again, I’ve known some pretty stupid lawyers. On the gripping hand, maybe he lied on his resume about where he went to school and/or his amazing law career.
Note, he was an entertainment lawyer, so his biggest skill is probably shouting people down and having power lunches.

It would be cool if a history teacher would show this clip to his class to demonstrate why knowing history is important.
That was a textbook example of somebody exposing ignorance, killing it, crushing it into a ball and contemptuously flicking it away. Bravo to Matthews, not just for humiliating a fool but for correctly identifying the central fallacy of Bush’s whole swipe at Obama.

Jesus Christ that was satisfying! Although Matthews sometimes uses his powers for evil. Remember that time he essentially grilled some state representative from Texas to name one of Barack Obama’s accomplishments? He couldn’t and he looked stupid. I thought it a bit unfair.
Matthews is definitely left of center. He used to work for Tip O’Neil but he will at times go after people on the left. But he seems to do it in an arbitrary way. If this interview had happened on another day this Kevin James idiot could have gotten away scott free.
The best part, IMO was right after the smackdown. Matthews just told the guy the answer to the question, then goes to the Air America guy and says, “We’re talking about people with a blank slate when it comes to History!” and the other guy, already looking like a fool says, “HEY CHRIS, HEY CHRIS!..(listens to blank slate comment over satellite)…WHAT DO YOU MEAN BLANK SLATE!!!”
That was so satisfying for many reasons because:
A) It’s a retarded argument to begin with
B) Only an idiot could argue in favor of it.
C) They found a huge effing moron to put it forth
D) He got owned in such an amazing way.

Agreed, absolutely. Matthews seems to randomly go on a tear sometimes with an obviously dishonest, crank guest. Other times he’ll smile and nod at the most outrageous claims and rank stupidity. If he’s going to call someone out, I wish he’d have at least a modicum of consistency, or appear to have some standards of any sort about when a frothing guest (and boy, was this one frothing, jeez) deserves a smack down.
Not to mention, Matthews himself acts like a frothing crank at times when interviewing people. I wish he’d shout himself down some days.

To be honest, I don’t think that incident was unfair. It was uncomfortable and embarrassing to watch as an Obama suporter, but I think it was a perfectly fair question. The guest was unprepared for it and he paid the price. Hopefully, it taught the Obama campaign not to put people out there without being prepared.

I don’t generally watch Matthews, as I’m not a big fan of shout-fests which are to reasoned political discourse what the WWF is to Olympic wrestling.

I wasn’t talking about the guy last night, but a state rep who was on a couple of months ago to tout Obama. Matthews asked him to cite some of Obabama’s accomplishments. He couldn’t come up with anything and ended up looking foolish.

Normally I can’t stand Matthews, but damn. Not only did he destroy James, but he summed up what was BS about Bush’s analogy. What Chamberlain did wrong wasn’t talking to Hitler, it was giving Hitler half of Czechoslovakia.
Well the problem there was the other guest was Patty Solis Doyle, a really important democrat. Secondly, Matthews never asked her about Hillary’s specific achievements. That, to me, was the hypocritical part. I think Clinton never got seriously grilled about what, exactly, her achievements were. She was never asked to list anything she did.
I didn’t realize that was a woman, but she did get to speak. She pointed out that James was just repeating talking points without knowing what they meant.
