What I just witnessed goes to what’s fundamentally wrong with the Republican party. Is it any wonder that they’ve lost so much credibility in recent years, not to mention both houses of Congress? How can they continue to allow whirling dickheads like this to “carry their water”, so to speak? Are they that painfully aware of how hollow their arguments have become that they’ve just given up on trying to appeal to anyone with two brain cells to rub together?
Green put it best: it’s rhetoric over facts. If you shout “9-11” or “terrorist” loud enough, you can negate any argument with a shred of reality in the minds of the ignorant. And now, we can add to that list the word “appeasement” (not that most people who follow these clowns would even know what that word means). And the fact that there are still that many ignorant people in this country is something that scares the hell out of me.
[hijack]FWIW, I just wanted everybody to know that the Air America guy was Mark Green, former mayoral New York City candidate, Consumer Affairs Commissioner and Public Advocate. In his unsuccessful bid for mayor against Michael Bloomberg, he ran at a respecable 49%-47%. He’s also part of a roundtable of a local news station, where he generally represents the liberal point of view.[/hijack]
You could bring up the Bush speech and ask the class if they see anything wrong with the analogy (see if anyone was paying attention.) Then you could tell them it is important to know your history or this could happen to you, and then show them the interview.
IMO, it is always more important to let students know that the material is relevant, than it is to simply teach the material. I’m not saying you are guilty of this, but way too many teachers are.
